Russia and Qatar will host World Cups

I don't follow soccer and could not care less about the sport. However I'll admit I got drawn in a little bit during the U.S.'s run this past summer. For those that do follow it how does Qatar beat out the U.S. and Australia to be a host? Is FIFA trying to win the most corrupt organizing body award? This country is supposedly smaller than the size of Conneticut (sp) and has less people than Houston. It's in the Middle East where it will be 130 degrees during the summer and has some lovely terrorist nations surrounding it. This decision seems like a joke.

It is a fault in your character that I have tried to overlook these many years, you are forgiven...or they are trying to spread goodwill and make these countries feel included so many they will join the human race and quit being a terrorist nation! The size of the country doesn't matter, just the soccer fields and the security. Africa proved you can host a game in a hostile place and still have great games! I will have to read more on the subject to determine why they granted it to Qatar. Cawacko, if we don't let these small backwards countries advance, how do you expect them to come of age?

Someone who follows soccer will know far more about FIFA than I do but I've been reading various sports sites this morning and the general theme is about how corrupt FIFA is and how this decision defies logic.

We were the favourites to host the 2018 World Cup but FIFA is an incredibly corrupt organisation. The 22 members of the committee are famous for their love of baksheesh. On a personal note, how anyone could dislike football is just incomprehensible to me?

Thanks, I am continuing to read, everyone thought Africa defied all logic, too and it worked out just fine!

I would like to make it extremely clear that any suggestions that Russia and Qatar won merely because they were the top answers in our survey of "countries where FIFA delegates are likely to wake up in their hotel room with a massive bag of cash in their wardrobe", is completely coincidental.

Let me guess, Americans and Brits are pissed that they were snubbed so they resort to unsubstantiated allegations of corruption as the only reason that their countries were not chosen?

Not really, no.

FIFA were quite pissed off that the British press has been going after them and exposing their corruption though.

I'm sure that awarding the 2022 World Cup to Qatar will really work to keep the British press of their assess.

I know, huh! They perceive it as boring because there isn't that much violence on the field! They do not realize the skill and finesse!

Yes the skill to know how to flop and fake injury which I think might be taught before players even learn how to kick the ball.

Oh, that is just a lie! and I have seen football players do it, too! a little extra time to recover never hurts anyone, except maybe, the other team! The drama is part of the action and soccer fans hate fakers, too!

Nigel, you are talking out of your rear end, the corruption in FIFA is well known and well documented.

No, I recognize that there are serious questions concerning corruption at FIFA. I just don't see any actual evidence of corruption influencing this decision. The only thing that you and yours point to as evidence of corruption is how fucking awesome the US and UK are and how much better host countries they would be than Russia and Qatar.

Since the redsox purchased liver-pool I have tried to watch a few games but OMG its so rediculous in regards to the flopping the players do. I though basketball was bad but its just unwatchable.
