Not a betting man but that is indeed tempting insomuch as we have it ensconced in our state constitution via the amendment process. That required a 60% super-majority of the legislature followed by a simple majority of the voters. Since that time NC has an increase in the GOP majority of both houses.

The very act of defining these terms draws at least a loose line in the sand. These terms are typically described in terms of actions comitted, and all action is a choice. While I suppose one can argue one has no control over their genes and environment we all have control over what we do with it.

Aside from the old 'predestiny' arguement I find little to base the idea of not having control over whether you indulge in sexual activities with males or females (or at all).

Usually I get a retort along the lines of 'the ancient Greeks had no conception of homosexuality'; but then again they didn't even have a firm grasp of time either. . .

Actually, I have spent a fair amount of time researching the issue of homosexuality in general, and indeed all humans have to decide their sexuality; usually during puberty.

You are going to champion freedom, free will and free choice, and you will then tell me its not a choice? Hypocricy.

No, it wasn't a choice, it was my instincts, the chemistry within myself that caused my body to respond to men and not women. I did not have the same reaction to women that I had to men, so this was not choice.

I have known very beautiful, intelligent women whom I have loved deeply, but never felt even the slightest sexual attraction.

So, you were attracted to guys, but choose women? Was it your religion that made the final decision?
 
When a higher number is unstable then yes, that brings down the average stability of the entire group. That's how math and statistics works. Didn't you learn that in college?

So, let's roll back a bit. In order to have a conception of gay/straight we need to define them. How do we define them? 2 ways:

1) By actions. i.e. you are gay because you kiss/fondle/sodomize/w.e. Your actions define you as such, and the actions that define a gay or straight person are defined by yourself/society.

2) By self-identification. You are straight because you consider yourself straight. Notice that this one falls into the first, but its not uncommon to see this argument so it gets its own special number.


So, either you identify yourself as gay/straight (gs) based upon your concept of gs, or you define yourself as gs based on your actions (concept). Either way you are making a purposeful judgment of yourself, whatever society might think.

As far as your feeling and attractions, they are chemical. They are triggered by these genetic predispositions and environmental triggers. They are subjective and as a rule I'd not value emotions highly.

As far as your chemical attractions they can be attributed to your environment and possibly genetic predisposition. At some point in your life you decided you fit the criteria of gs and you've been hard at work trying to work it into your schemas ever since. Even one who claims 'not to like being gs and wants desperately to be different' works the concept they have into their actions, thoughts, and experiences.

If you look back to Aristotle, he describes what he defines free will. The same we base our modern definition upon. He claims in essence that although things may seem out of control, our actions are the result of free will. He declares that even if its 'who we are' we are still free to choose, or were up until the point we willingly surrendered this free will.

You poke fun at me and patronize me? I have nothing of the sort to you. I never claimed this, and if you perceived it honestly so than it is because I am making an effort to stay neutral. If you want honesty.

As I said above, every person has to choose their sexuality at some point in their life. For some it seems like a no brainer; for others it must be hard. Some do it multiple times over their life, leading to this idea of a continuum. I chose to be straight, yes.
