Sarah Palin Endorses Rand Paul for U.S. Senate

See? I don't object to everything Sarah Palin does:

With each day the possibility of a Senator Paul seems more and more a reality.

But he could be named Senator Nobody for all I care. It's the ideas that matter, and Rand Paul's got 'em.

Yeah, it's amazing... after you get past the media's caricature of Palin, and ignore the baseless attacks from the left, you come to realize she is someone not bent on the typical 'party' politics as usual approach, and does have some rather independent ideas.

She's an idiot. She supports here party on all of the ways in which it is wrong and opposes it on all of the ways in which it is right.

Just glad that Libertarians are finally showing their true right-wing populist Sarah Palin colors.

Hear that Adam... Palin is an idiot for endorsing Rand! :good4u:

Libertarians are not populist. well. sort of. Seems that as of late theyve become corporatists, like the neocon stains.

If she gets more people like Rand Paul elected, it will be a vindication of her judgment to me, without question.

I do think, though--and this is a little cynicism on my part--that it was already fairly obvious (though now eminent) that Rand Paul was going to win the nomination and SarahPAC wanted to plant the seed of being associated with Rand Paul and the libertarian wing.

Her preparation for national office is another question entirely that we've debated to no end. Just because I wouldn't outright endorse her for President doesn't mean I would say she has no place in the movement, and if endorsing liberty-minded candidates is part of that place, I'm all for it.

Well, let me be clear about this, while we're on the subject, because I don't want some pinhead coming back to throw it in my face down the road... I have never stated that I thought Sarah Palin was going to run for president. I actually think she probably won't, but will be an influential endorser of whoever ultimately does run for Republicans.

As for her endorsement of Paul, I don't profess to know her reasoning, but if she isn't planning to run for president, why would she need to 'align' herself with anything or anyone? I think it is more likely, Palin's way of reaching out to people like yourself, who have been misled by her detractors into thinking she is some far-right-wing christian radical, and getting you to the point of actually listening to her ideas instead.

My issue with her has not been that she is far right. If we're talking economics, I would be concerned that she was not far right enough.

And the Pauls are not exactly the Osbournes, so it wasn't her religious views either.

It's mostly that I don't think she's got it on a number of levels, but I don't want to open that can of worms again right now.

She's done a good thing today and I appreciate it. If she's not running for President, then you're right, it's legitimately a good deed for the sake of the movement, perhaps even an olive branch, and hopefully she'll keep endorsing people like Rand Paul.

If you dislike Palin, why do you want her to endorse people that you like? That's pretty odd.

It's not odd if you look at it from a political perspective and not one of like and dislike. How many candidates who appeared to hate each other in the heat of a primary have endorsed an opponent when it was all said and done and brought their supporters with them?

What's more, I don't dislike very many people at all, so I wouldn't include Sarah Palin in that category. I question her commitment to certain things I think are important in someone who might want to lead the country, but that's a separate issue.

What's certainly not up for debate is that she's very famous and has the ear of a lot of people. Why should I not want her to endorse someone I agree with so that her fans will look at my candidates and causes?

She's not claiming Rand Paul agrees with everything she does. She's saying she supports Rand Paul.

I want everyone who has a reasonable possibility of supporting what I support to give it a whirl and let their friends know. And as long as it's not sinking the ship or creating a backlash by adding unneeded baggage, it's good news.
