Seperation of Church and State...! Jefferson style!

You do not understand separation of church and state. It does not mean that government cant use religous buildings for a secular purpose or that religens cant use government buildings for a religous purpose, especally in a time of war. It merely means that the two cannot be intertwined. Many Churches meet in schools on the weekend, they can rent the buliding just like anyone else. The elementry school by my house has a pilgrimage of Jews walking to it every Saturday.

What you whakos do is refuse to have a logical argument about the issue and then throw out all of these silly examples that make no sense.....

Tell that to the ACLU next time they take a small town to court for having a Christmas display on the town square.

The difference between the two is that the small twon christmas display is ONLY for one single religion. The use of the church as a signal spot was for all people and religions.

Dude, Christmas is a national holiday. :palm:

Yes it is. But that does not justify using public funds and public grounds to have a display for one single religion to the exclusion of all others.

That is the difference between the examples of Paul Revere and the small town xmas displays.

That is different. If the government pays for a religous display, that crosses the line unless they give all religens the same respect.

Dude, why would you have a non-Christian display during the Christmas holiday?

There are plenty of other religous holidays at the same time. It does not matter what time of the year you do it, if they put a display up for different holidays at different times of the year that would likely be okay.

I don't think he even gets it that Christmas is a christian holiday....

hes ok with it because he don't know whats going on...

TO some people, to others it is merely a commercalized generic gift giving holiday with no religous signifigance.

I know Jews who celebrate Christmas becuase they think its fun, they do not belive in Christ!

I am fully aware that its a christian holiday. I celebrate it as a christian, and do not need a nativity scene on the courthouse lawn to make it so.

I do know whats going on. Apparently you think that having a single religious group represented, to the exclusion of all others, is not unconstitutional.

Why? Christmas is a national holiday. Ramadan ain't.

So you are ok with the federal, state and local governments celebrating xmas, and not allowing another religion to place their religious decorations on display on public property as well?

All falsely elevated, or in some cases, simply made up.

And the use of December 25th for the celebration of Christmas is made up as well. It is not the date (or time of year) Jesus was born.

All holidays are "made up". Just because some were made up a long time ago and some more recently has no bearing. Unless you would like to set an arbitrary age for "acceptable holidays".

So the birth of a Savior is on par with Kwanza? :)

Most on here that know me know that I am an unapologetic Christian. I don't think that I've kept that hidden. I do not even believe in Christmas as a "religious" holiday. I view it as a totally secular holiday in no way connected to the birth of Christ. So as to "being for" public displays (manger scenes on courtyards and such) ... I am not. I also realize that as a Christian, this view is in the minority.

I also think some common sense needs to be injected into the debate...I live in a very Christian part of the country. Decorations in a courtyard are to be expected. I am not going to make a big deal about it. If I lived in a part of the country where there were a lot of folks who celebrated Kwanza or Hannuka and they wanted to decorate a courtyard right along side a "Christian" display, I am not going to make a big deal out of that. Unfortunately many do. What we generally have in these kinds of cases are two extreme sides pulling in both directions and those in the middle are getting hosed because of the time, money and effort put into the debates. It does get tiresome when so many other (more important, IMO) things need to be addressed by our lawmakers.

During Christmas?

The Christmas holiday now starts the day after Thanksgiving and runs until Christmas day.

There are several holidays during that time period. But they are typically not allowed to put their displays up in small town public properties.

These other "holidays" are attacks on Christmas, a national holiday. Don't you realize that?
