Sex offenders have kerfew

I don't think this is fair, i mean if you paid your debt you should be able to do what you want thats legal. not to mention that children are knockign on peoples doors, so wouldn't an offender want to be home??

Scores of sex offenders in Anderson, South Carolina, will be corralled for Halloween tonight in a move authorities say is needed to keep kids safe as they trick or treat.

At 5 p.m., we are going to require all of our probation/parole/pardon sex offenders to report to the office and they'll remain here from 5 to 10:30 p.m," agent Gerald Black, with the South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon, told CNN affiliate WYFF.

Authorities in Roanoke, Virginia, will do the same. "You have a safer public. We have all the offenders in this area that are on probation or parole in one location. We know where they are," Randy Phillips with the Department of Corrections told CNN affiliate WSLS.

If they're on parole/probation/pardon they're on a conditional release, so the the state can legitimately control them. Anyway, think of it as sensible risk management.

This isn't just child sex offenders, Damo...

Whenever people think of "sex offender", they always think of a child molester, but child molesters are just a small minority. Phil Bryant in my state, for instance, wants to make anyone who committed any sort of crime a "sex offender". I mean, WTF? Wouldn't it just be crime registry then, and not a sex offender registry?

It's not so bad. Some states have the laws set up so that it's nearly impossible for any "sex offender" to live in it.
 
Yeah my haloween fun was shot down. I did not have any paintballs for my gun to use on trick or treaters....

I wouldn't mind doing that. I like the little ones who come early, but around this time, the big ones come, and they're not so cute, and they end up eating all of my candy. Which I always hope there is some left over, because left over Halloween candy has no calories you know.
 
I guess haloween candy is like doughnut holes. I mean a hole is a nothing so it can't have calories, right ?

He clearly thinks it should be expanded beyond child sex offenders. I, personally, don't.

However, I do not think that those who, as an adult, committed the crime on children should ever get out of jail at all. I certainly am not going to clamor for their right to continue to prey on children throughout the evening on Halloween.

The redividism rates for these kinds of crime is somewhere between 1% and 99%, from what I hear.

Damo, if we're talking about "any sexual crime against children nets someone life in prison without parole", for christ sake, why don't we just chemically castrate them? Wouldn't that be cheaper and more effective? It reduces recividism rates, obviously, greater than anything else, and isn't such a burden on society.

I don't believe a crime of control is solved through chemical castration. There is more to molestation than drive, and there is no guarantee they will continue to take the medication.
 
There's no "cure" yet. Chemical castration doesn't work. They will keep doing it as long as they're not in prison.

You know Water, I just don't give a crap about them. They're not worth the time it took me to type this.
 
It's a good idea to know something about them. That way you can pressure your politicians into doing something meaningful about them and not putting up useless, populist moves which are designed to quieten the electorate first and foremost. Ask your local politician if a paedophile can be "cured" or "rehabilitated" and take it from there. If you get a straight answer then you know how to vote next election (here's a clue - paedophiles cannot be cured and cannot be rehabilitated at this time in the development of human knowledge).

It is also good to learn their techniques, how kids are convinced to hide it for them and make sure your kids are not prone to that technique. These people usually have dozens of victims before they are caught, then they are one of the highest recidivism rates out there.
 
Well of course they can. Chemical castration is about 99% effective. Group therapy also helps. Saying they can't be cured or rehabilited is ignorance.

Damo, in Europe they tried this in the sixties (well, physical castration, that is), and it had the highest effectiveness out of any method ever tried, with recidivism rates in the low single digits. Don't just spout out random shit to spout it out.

I don't just spout random crap. Link us to your studies, they have been found to be inaccurate and simply wrong. There are other items they can use to molest children, removing genitals does not solve the problem.

I have no idea why you have such an overwhelming urge to protect these things. The only way to protect them from themselves is to remove any chance they ever have to speak to children. Take them out of society.
