Shopping this weekend...

I was out buying a few items for Festivus this weekend.

In one store they had a guard at the exit, after the cash register who was stopping customers to compare the receipt with the items in the cart. A long line developed so I skipped it and walked out with the items I had paid for. This really upset the store security department who had two goons try to stop me as I walked to my car and drove away. Why would any idiot wait in a 20 min line to prove he bought the items that were already his? Why did the store think they had a right to prevent me from leaving?

In a book store the security system that beeps as you walk out if they detect an item whose tag has not been removed was clearly broken. It was beeping as each customer walked out. People were freaking out, returning to the store and going through their bags to prove to an employee they were not stealing. Some of us just kept going, but I was surprised by those who returned.

Are American consumers so cowed and beaten down by police that we are afraid to go about our business when we have done nothing wrong?

We have kids in classrooms where eating a poptart into the "wrong" shape can get them kicked out of school and you wonder why Americans are turning into wimptastic sheeple? From the first time the government gets hold of them they are taught to follow unreasonable nonsense into a hole of fail, why do you think they might not be in the habit of it by the time the stores get hold of them?

"Festivus", that cracked me up. :)

Costco has people checking receipts at the exit for as long as I've been a member. I always thought it was stupid.

The 0 tolerance crap is real bullshit. I never heard the poptart story?

Being too law and order oriented with children does have negative consequences.

Of course dimwits think it is stupid for private businesses to try to prevent shoplifting; they should be giving their stuff away for the good of humanity dontchyaknow.

What does this story have to do with police dunce? This is a private business trying to prevent Democrat loser voters from robbing the store blind. Of course liberal dimwits like you think that companies should give their stuff away for the good of humanity!!

I wish I were there and the security goons could have grabbed you and cuffed your dumb ass to ensure you weren't stealing. I would have been laughing at you and cheering them for doing their "minimum wage" duty to the store.

God you're one dumb fuck.

most people are honest folks

they react and do these things out of pride NOT stupidity.

If Im near the exit and it goes off I stop and turn around and look for someone who wishes to check my shit.

I do that because I don't take shit.

I am proud I don't take shit and don't want ANYONE to think I would do such a thing.

to me that is worth my time.

My honor with others is worth time

Oh Deshy Dearest wants a cookie because she doesn't steal.

Good girl

think how kids view this behavior from most adults they see in the stores.

What a great illustration for these young ones to see MOST people working to be seen as honest people.

its annoying and even a little insulting when it goes off.

the REAL payoff is the kids seeing that MOST people DO NOT want to be seen as taking whats not theirs.

that is the effect of a village
