Should Musk/trump raise the retirement age?

Oh we complain about spending. But you guys won't let us touch the military.

You want to spend as much money as humanly possible for the military at the expense of American citizens.
You guys fight tooth and nail to ensure social spending NEVER goes up. You work overtime to make welfare as degrading an experience as possible. You construct systems in which people who get welfare are made to feel like they are SCUM who are getting this only because YOU ARE FORCED BY LAW to care about them.

I know what kind of government spending you love. And you DO LOVE YOU SOME SERIOUS GOVERNMENT SPENDING. You just don't like spending on people.

And as far as taxes go: you are being played. You payed more in federal tax than Jeff Bezos did in 2007.

"In 2007, Jeff Bezos, then a multibillionaire and now the world’s richest man, did not pay a penny in federal income taxes." (HERE)

YOU ARE THE SUCKER, Cletus. Good luck justifying this.
Who are the us you are referring to in being denied the ability to cut military spending? Democrats? Not a rhetorical question, are (did) Democrats running on a platform of cutting military spending?

Are there?

Is anyone really laboring under the impression that President Trump can raise the Social Security retirement age?

I’d say the bottom line here is that no one has a remedy to amending social security, and what makes it scary is that the politicians in DC couldn’t pour piss out of a boot if they were holding by the heal, a great LBJ quote, not always known for his civility

At last, dawn breaks upon Marblehead!

Well, we certainly spend more than anyone else percapita for our ginormous military:

But we are NEVER ALLOWED to touch that budget.

But the things that matter to individuals, things like health, old age, benefits, family and job market programs, we are pretty far down the list:

So DO TELL me how we spend more than anyone else percapita on this stuff.

(I know, numbers and data aren't your thing and you get confused so by all means just scream that I'm an idiot)
You know what most of those countries have in common? At the end of the day they are very reliant on the U.S. for their safety. You can argue the U.S. should spend less on the military (and not send money to places like Ukraine), not be the world’s police and let those countries fend more for themselves.

In such a scenario I imagine the numbers in those charts would change drastically.

LOL.

Sorry, I'll keep waiting for you to muster an adult style argument.
you bragged about an era where we could afford a single person working

you refuse to understand that was when the Federal Government was spending $400 per person. Now it is $20,000 per person - it kind of makes it hard to only have one person working

you are not the adult in this debate.

So you say. Don't the wealthy pay the same percentage the working class does?
Is that something else you do not know? The tax rate is 6.2 percent. You pay up to 112K After that no more. Now take time and ask for help from someone around you, they can assist. If you make 224 K per year and pay only on the first half what percent do you pay? Why it is 3.1. Of course if you make a lot more. your percent of income payment becomes negligible. I shudder when you post. You are so sure of post after post that are wrong.

We should eliminate the concept of "retirement" in America altogether. Americans have it too good as it is. Sure we're rich but we could be richer. If people were only willing to do the hard work the billionaires demand.

Look, as someone gets older they're probably not going to do the job as well, so we can either have companies PAY THEM LESS or we can let the companies FIRE them and let them figure out how to get money for food etc. on their own. That's what America is all about. Hard work = SUCCESS.

We should also eliminate medicare. Socialism has only ever hurt people.
Sadly, I think President Musk and his manservant trump agrees with your statements.

I didn't say I don't know it, Nerdsperg. I asked a question. Looks like the percentage is the same up to a threshold. Are you referring to the earnings threshold?

Now, can you address the rest of your post?

Social Security can be helped by making the wealthy pay the same percentage the working class does.

Trump botching the US COVID response dropped US life expectancy by 1.8 years.
Yes, but it is worse than just that. Even before Covid, life expectancy had dropped 3 out of 4 years. Most Americans are seeing rising life expectancies, but there is a demographic in America that is making very bad health decisions and is seeing worsening health outcomes. That demographic is most correlated with trump voters.

When I was 15, I saw kids take up smoking, and that made sense to me. I did not do it personally, but still I understood it. Now we are seeing men in their 50's take up smoking... And it honestly makes no sense to me.

To recreate those conditions should we role back all the technological advancements, end globalization, have large portions of Europe and Japan destroyed by war, other portions of Europe behind the Iron Curtain, China under the throws of Mao etc.?

Because that was the world at the time.
The world before Republicans demonized unions and eroded the Middle Class in America. First they took the money, next they'll take your freedom.
