Should Musk/trump raise the retirement age?

That is what happened last time. A one off bill in 1983 raised retirement ages for everyone born after 1948 two month increments until it reached 67 for people born on or after 1960. This gave everyone 20+ years notice of the changes, and also made the changes difficult to alter.

The bargain is trump will not destroy America, and Democrats will allow trump to greatly weaken America. That is always the deal.
It was part of a much larger grand bargain over S.S. that included raising the age but was far from the only thing in the bill. But of course you knew that and it's JPP, why be intellectually honest so I get it.

trump keeps threatening to destroy everything, and Democrats keep caving to that threat. So the "grand bargain" will be that trump won't destroy America, but will be allowed to weaken America.

No. It does NOT need to be done. There's literally NO REASON. We have access to untapped TRILLIONS of dollars if we only started taxing the wealthy and corporations like a RATIONAL COUNTRY.

We act as if ultrawealthy greed and avarice are somehow not only NORMAL but a VIRTUE.

This has GOT to stop.
Worse yet, a mere $.25 fee per trade in the market would fund almost every program that Republicans want to cut. Not so long ago, almost every brokerage house charged a $7/trade fee. Now due to competition, most charge nothing.

To pay a mere quarter on every purchase you make would be insignificant to the individual, but reap billions from the high speed trades made while we sleep.

That's a way to implement a tiny fee that would be paid by those who earn the most in the world, and pay the least in taxes.

Mighty generous with other people's money, aren't you?

In 1983, it was decided to raise the retirement age by 2 months for every year born, until it reached 67 for people born in 1960. So people born in 1960 will reach full retirement age in 2027. This seemed like a reasonable deal, given that life expectancies were rising by an average of 3.5 months per year back in 1983.

Life expectancies are rising by a current average of 12 days per year, and look set to start decreasing. So talking about raising retirement age now would mean a double whammy of losing time in retirement.

And there would be no time to plan around it. The 1983 plan gave people 25 years to plan around a 2 month increase in retirement age.

If Musk/trump continues the increases for people born after 1960, they will have only 2 or 3 years to plan around an increase in retirement age.
I coulda retired at 59 regardless of whoever my ruler happens to be. And that's all self funded. lol

I had a girlfriend that had a trust fund worth almost tens of millions. She saw a TV show about people working at a fast food restaurant, and thought it looked like fun. So she started working at McDonald's at age 16, and quit a little less than an hour later. It turned out to be less entertaining than she thought. To the best of my knowledge, she never worked again... So technically she retired at age 16.

If you have the money, why not. I would worry about becoming directionless though. I have not setup trust funds for my kids, because I would not want them to be directionless.

^^^^Doesn't know how fees work. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

Wait until you are old enough and you'll get a CREDIT CARD. Then you'll understand what FEES mean and how EVERYONE has to pay fees. And it isn't the end of America if people have to pay a fee for a service.

Now enjoy Christmas, little one. Hope mommy and daddy...ooops, I mean SANTA brought you lots of toys!

I had a girlfriend

I have a wife now.

Me too, and mine is also a 100 percent service connected disabled Navy vet who now lives full time in a power wheelchair.
She's one of those folks Trump called "losers and suckers" or...if you don't believe that, one of the ones Pete Hegseth termed "moochers who lack personal integrity" because she dares to USE her VA benefits.

Be sure to thank her for her service, and sacrifice.

America has given trump, Musk, and Hegseth so much, and they think they owe America nothing. Musk, the richest man in the world, actually complained he received nothing... assumably aside from hundreds of billions of dollars.

I have nothing against the wealthy, and I accept they are going to be a little arrogant, but they owe society something.

If Emperor Musk and his butler Trump have their way, the VA will no longer exist by this time next year and she will not get the help she needs with her MS, her bladder, her kidney (only has one) and her radiation poisoning.
Also gone, her VA disability pension.

no country spends like we do. none

This IS gonna stop.
The rest of the developed world have welfare states, where the government spends money to guarantee the welfare of everyone. First and foremost, everyone gets healthcare. It is a right.

Have you ever seen how the rest of the world lives?
