Stop and think: if there are no assault weapons to be had, then the mental nut cases can't get one. If there is proper background checks, classes and tests given before issuing that gun, you have a better chance of vetting out the nut jobs. Mind you, nothing is perfect, but my proposal sure as hell would do better than the current status quo.

You act like you believe that if there are no guns available, then there will be no murders by the "mental cases"; but haven't there been mass murders committed by objects other then a firearm?

The assault weapons ban did not effect the number of mass shootings in any way, shape, or form and the majority of gun homicides are committed with handguns.

Of course it didn't, stupid. That's because I am referring to the MASS SHOOTINGS THAT DID OCCUR USING ASSAULT STYLE WEAPONS. A simple google of mass shootings in the last twenty years will attest to that.

The "privilege" requires license and registration, you dolt. You also have to take courses and pass a competency test. That's just to operate a machine designed for transportation....NOT killing like guns do.

Stop and think, chuckles.....illegal guns are not exactly a walk in the part to obtain and cost a hell of a lot more than legally bought weapons. Any cop worth his salt will tell you that. So the nut jobs that have been committing mass shootings over the years WOULD NOT have had those assault rifles had the AWB been in place....nor would folk be quick to sell their weapons if they were licensed and registered like cars (accountability, ya know). That's why crooks go into states with easy gun laws, buy the guns and then sell them on the black market to those in states with tougher laws.....do some research on the "pipe line" of guns used in crimes in NYC that came from other states with far lesser gun laws.

That premise can be refuted immediately. There were laws that said the school was a gun free zone. He didn't pay attention to it yet the gun haters think a law about him having one will work.

Stop and think: If we make laws that say schools are gun free zones, the mental nut cases won't take guns on school grounds. Wait, that was in place before he took guns onto the school campus.

Gun owners will not agree to anything because it's just the beginning of constant abuse by the gun lobby. You people keep talking about assault weapons, thats a negative name attached by the gun lobby, given to a gun that isn't anything other than a semi-auto rifle period. Dishonesty never brings things forward. guns don't kill people people kill people.

The gun lobby is a dishonest broker that lies constantly to prove their point. Every analogy given by the gun owners is rejected by the gun lobby. gun haters hate guns and want them ALL BANNED FOREVER THAT'S THEIR GOAL period that's a fact.

We have those restrictions in place for drivers but far more people are killed in this nation in auto accidents than by gun violence. Are you sure that your proposition would work?

1. His suggestion that an assault weapons ban would have prevented Cruz from having one works off the faulty premise that "illegal" means "unavailable".

2. His claim that licensing and registering them will cut down on the illegal trafficking of them is also faulty. It will make it worse unless he's willing to claim that all those that currently own something aren't supposed to own for whatever reason will register them because the law says so. In other words, he's arguing under the premise that criminals follow the laws.

Do you have a credible source that shows illegally purchased guns are more expensive than ones bought legally from the store? I could see them being slightly more expensive if they are obtained through a straw buyer. However, many of the illegal gun sales involve stolen weapons, which cost the seller nothing. Therefore, any money they get is profit.
