Simple solutions to school shootings

Stop and think, chuckles.....illegal guns are not exactly a walk in the part to obtain and cost a hell of a lot more than legally bought weapons. Any cop worth his salt will tell you that. So the nut jobs that have been committing mass shootings over the years WOULD NOT have had those assault rifles had the AWB been in place....nor would folk be quick to sell their weapons if they were licensed and registered like cars (accountability, ya know). That's why crooks go into states with easy gun laws, buy the guns and then sell them on the black market to those in states with tougher laws.....do some research on the "pipe line" of guns used in crimes in NYC that came from other states with far lesser gun laws.

You mean to tell me if Cruz registered his AR that would have stopped him from killing 17 ppl????

Do you think people didn't own ARs from 1994-2004? Do you think people didn't buy new ones during that time?

Do you know recent history? All those purchases PRIOR to the enacting the AWB were allowed to keep them and sell them as they saw fit. When the law lapsed, sales ramped up again....hence Cruz's purchase.

And sadly, the rest is history.

will never happen. what do you do to the thousands upon thousands who refuse?

You refer to the bunch of willfully ignorant, paranoid and bigoted clowns who refuse to acknowledge or don't realize that an AWB does NOT "grab their guns" or magically lessen the effectiveness of the plethora of handguns, rifles and shotguns currently available. Although many members of Congress are bought and paid for by the NRA, the majority of it's members are FOR gun control amendments that the NRA leadership lobby against! Don't take my word for it, do some honest research on it.

We have those restrictions in place for drivers but far more people are killed in this nation in auto accidents than by gun violence. Are you sure that your proposition would work?

Far more people drive on a daily basis...which is why there is CONSTANT enforcement of those laws, CONSTANT revamping of auto design for safety and CONSTANT examination and amending of laws regarding drivers and cars.

Far less can be said for an instrument DESIGNED to kill a myriad of people effectively. :palm:

The AWB helps..and ANY HELP IN PREVENTING ANOTHER MASS SHOOTINGS IS WORTH IT.

Gun owners will not agree to anything because it's just the beginning of constant abuse by the gun lobby. You people keep talking about assault weapons, thats a negative name attached by the gun lobby, given to a gun that isn't anything other than a semi-auto rifle period. Dishonesty never brings things forward. guns don't kill people people kill people.

The gun lobby is a dishonest broker that lies constantly to prove their point. Every analogy given by the gun owners is rejected by the gun lobby. gun haters hate guns and want them ALL BANNED FOREVER THAT'S THEIR GOAL period that's a fact.

The gun lobby doesn't want a discussion they want everyones guns period.

Actually the term "assault weapon" is a classification deemed by the MANUFACTURERS AND THE MILITARY. Look it up if you don't believe me.

And for you use to use that moronic slogan is pathetic....yeah, people kill people..and they do so more effectively and with MORE VICTIMS when they have a gun DESIGNED TO DO JUST THAT. Got that?

And get your terminology correct....the "gun lobby" is the NRA. The vast majority of Gun control advocates are NOT for total banning and restrictions....just look at the Brady Bill and the AWB, because if you can't defend yourself with the vast majority of weapons NOT on those list, I'd say you're just a lousy shot.

Just saw the kids on TV who walked out seeking action on gun control. Even they are suggesting more reasonable action than just banning guns.

then explain how kids buy handguns in the back streets of chicago for 200 dollars. we'll wait.

What's to explain? You're talking about ILLEGAL transactions....hell, cops have been trying to stop the "Saturday Night Special" type dealings for decades....but it's hard to do when some joker can just bop to a state with minimum requirements for purchasing and then sneak them into another state with more stricter rules (see stories about the "iron pipe line" and NYC).

It's like this, chuckles...you DON'T make it easier for nuts and criminals to buy assault weapons...hence the AWB. But the GOP in the NRA's pocket (who is in the pocket of gun manufacturers), don't give a damn, because they are making money and staying in power..... the recent decision of the Florida State gov't NOT to re-instate the AWB is perfect example.

The military has no definition for assault weapons. The do for assault rifles. An AR-15 does not meet that definition. Just a little clarification.

No stupid, I'm telling you that if Cruz could not buy that gun at all through a dealership, he most likely would NOT have paid a higher price from a private seller (or illegal seller, if he could find one). But folk like you want to make it and keep it easier FOR A WEAPON THAT IS UNNECESSARY GIVEN THE PLETHORA OF GUNS AVAILABLE THAT ARE NOT ON THE AWB LIST.

Got that, bunky?

You could also buy the brand new during the ban chief. Change a cosmetic feature and it's not a "assault weapon".

It's illegal to buy handguns across state lines.

Do you have a credible source that shows illegally purchased guns are more expensive than ones bought legally from the store? I could see them being slightly more expensive if they are obtained through a straw buyer. However, many of the illegal gun sales involve stolen weapons, which cost the seller nothing. Therefore, any money they get is profit.

“How about with how much handguns go for on the black market?”

Agent Mulham said, “Well, a quality pistol like a Glock might go for double or triple retail. Lower-quality guns, however, are often worth only $100 or $200 more than retail.”

As I have NEVER advocated for "just banning guns", as the AWB and gun control is about NOT selling specific category of weapons to the general public. You do realize that by law military issued weapons are for military use only even though they are made by private companies. So don't bandy about the phrase "banning guns", because that can be misleading.

the AWB points out SPECIFIC weapons that are classified by the manufacturers and the military as "assault" weapons and rifles. Can't really split that hair, but lord knows gunners do try.

Really? Care to provide proof that one could buy an AR-15 (style) weapon under the AWB? because that would mean the manufacturer tried subterfuge to skirt the law. Did you look into legal wrangling that happened over such? Bet you didn't.

Since you've made the statement of: "...most likely would NOT have paid a higher price from a private seller (or illegal seller...", are you basing that on the last one you purchased or do you have other definitive proof?

How is following the law skirting the law? Just Google "post ban AR" and you'll find thousands. So long as it didn't have too many certain features, it was legal and not covered by the ban.

Are you referring to the AWB of 1994? If so an AR-15 was legal to buy then also depending on the accessories.
