It is odd that he would spend so much time campaigning, and even announce a run, if he were not running. In fact, many would argue his actions are the very definition of running.

He seems to be making a lot of mistakes...and I'm not sure all were unintentional.
trump is now both the establishment of the party of trump(formerly the Republican Party), and the supposed "anti-establishment" candidate (according to the party of trump). That leaves no room for DeSantis to be anything.

It'll be interesting to see how it all plays out.
IMO, most of the Republican leadership know that a dark day..or two, is coming for Pedo Don. The Georgia case and the classified material case are likely to have dire consequences for the Herr Donald.
Donors to other than trump candidates are demanding that the less than second place candidates drop out after a certain point, and have a unified candidate to run against trump. They are living in a fantasy world. There is literally no one who can defeat trump for the nomination.
There are three possible hopes:
1) trump dies, and cannot run in the general election.
2) trump is in prison(or fled the country), and cannot run in the general election.
3) Biden wins.
There is no possible world where DeSantis wins the nomination over a living, out of prison trump. trump could literally shoot a man on Fifth Avenue, and he will be nominated. That is the one claim he is right about.
Rightys are pounding on Desantis . He deserves it. However when Trump cannot run, they will suddenly love, love, love Desantis. Desantis is a creep, but he us smart enough to see when Trump is arrested, the reds will need someone to turn to. He will have an easy trip to the nomination. He just has to endure the Trumpian onslaught. He also has to survive the Trumpys and stay viable.

A good assessment but it's still a long way to July 2024. When did Hillary's campaign implode in 2008? Howard Dean's in 2004?
Trump's court cases should start popping up later this year or early the next. He's dumb enough to still run just like he was dumb enough to defame Carroll on national tv shortly after losing a defamation lawsuit in court. Unless Trump wants to spend his own money, and I'm guessing he doesn't, he'll have a hard time finding major donors for his campaign.
