SNAP/EBT discussion thread

Eh?

I think if demand for higher-priced food drops, prices will, too, unless the available supply has a commensurate decrease.
The demand for highly process sugary foods will fall for sure.

I say a tick tock you posted and a woman was showing off her food stamps food haul. She had a bunch of sodas and at least two big boxes of instant rice. Sugary drinks are poison and regular rice is easy to cook and a hell of a lot cheaper than instant rice.

Soon, SNAP will no longer be used to obtain such unhealthy foods in 12 states.

Changes are coming in 2026. The USDA has approved waivers for 12 states so far to restrict SNAP use for certain "junk" foods, like soda, candy, sweetened drinks, and some snacks. These waivers aim to promote healthier choices and were pushed by officials like Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins and HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who pointed out that SNAP spending on items like soda has fueled health issues such as diabetes.

Naturally, Democrats have shown significant opposition to the state-level SNAP waivers restricting purchases of unhealthy foods like soda, candy, and processed snacks.

I'm completely OK with lefties killing themselves by any means at their disposal, although I object to paying for it. But perhaps it'll be a worthwhile investment.
