So who has reported their "casual conversations" to the White House?

With the White House out there seeking to have you report your friends' "fishy" casual conversation remarks... I was just curious as to who has reported any of their neighbors, or even casual conversations, maybe a post or two?

Did you know that the White House is required to keep a record of all correspondence? Did you also know that it is illegal for any government entity to collect information on anybody using their first amendment rights?

Yeah, those laws are leftover from Nixon, who never once asked the public to report their friends casual conversations about their stance on policy...

Anyway.. Who has done this?

I decided it only right I report myself and my personal disdain for Obamacare and his rat fink approach to intimidating the American people who disagree with his policies. :) I'm not so sure he will be able to appreciate my effort.

I am sure you would know who would do that. It's a no-brainer. Gibbs was really stammering and stuttering when reporters started asking him about it.

As if we didn't know.

I heard today that there is a legal tangle the White House may find them selves in that could give rise to a legal battle.

Apparently anything sent to the White House MUST be kept and stored. Meaning that though the White House claims they will not be storing personal information the law requires that they do so. In essence they have created a legal conundrum for themselves. Meaning to keep this kind of information breaks the law with the Privacy Act passed in 74, to throw it out breaks the law over retaining information directed to the White House.

The ACLJ is considering the case.

Yes, first he said he would remove information from the missives, but he can't. The law says that they must be documented and archived.

Which is against the law under the Privacy Act of 1974....
Yup. Plus the "report your neighbors" thing does nothing to build bridges. The idea that any branch would keep a database of people who oppose them ideologically is disgusting to me. I would be against this if anybody did this, regardless of political party. I was troubled by Bush trying to get the Cable dudes to report "suspicious" activity in homes they were adding cable to... but that is actual illegal activity, this is specifically keeping a list of people exercising their first amendment rights, the Privacy laws do not allow this. His only real legal option is to get rid of this "report your neighbor" program, and soon.

The most shocking of this whole set up is not the audacity and arrogance of the Obama machine, it's the partisan support of it.

I'm telling you Damo, the people who are being maligned are not becoming intimidated, they are simply getting more angry.

So what do you think of the vendor who was attacked physically and racially by 4 union members who were asked by the White House to go to these Town Halls and engage the opposition? The violence against this man is being blatantly ignored by the MSM, imo, because he is a conservative...it's surreal.

Given the track record of you two on what the law requires I'm just going to assume you are completely full of shit until proven otherwise. My guess is that one of you read something about the Privacy Act on some know-nothing bomb-throwing right-wing blog and are now repeating it as fact without doing your homework.

I'd trouble you for a link but I can only take so much Malkin.

in other words, unless it's tacked to a 2" x 8" and smashed in to your forehead by CNN, you won't believe anything.

So far I haven't been wrong on the law. I'd trouble you for a link where I was, but then I know it isn't here.

I guess I could go to "dontvoteforobama.com" and get my news. But really, I got the information while watching MSNBC. It's always best to find out what the opposition is saying rather than going to the place where they are supposedly "preaching to the choir"...
