You tried to apply a variant of the historian's fallacy. Not going to work.
At Kent State, the National Guard were infantry untrained in any sort of security or police work. They were armed with rifles and bayonets. The police response was uncoordinated with them and the police drove rioters into the guardsmen. They were ordered to hold their ground and the only way to do that was shoot or bayonet.
That's not the case today. For DC, the unit deployed is almost certainly from the 372nd Military Police battalion with supporting troops. That means the NG members are trained in police and security work and capable of doing that job correctly.
What is "the historian's fallacy?" Can't ever discuss history?!

When you used Kent State (you ID'd as Ohio State) as an example. The National Guard in Ohio 55 years ago is not the National Guard in Washington DC now, neither in terms of composition or training. That renders your example invalid as a historian's fallacy. And you did it in post #3 of this thread.

Note the number on the bumper. That's the unit ID. So, it's trained military police in DC. As for carrying firearms, most if not all US cops carry a firearm these days. Why should the military do any different?
