What was the point about stating there is earlier mortality in the South?

I didn't say there was one. I have an opinion. It's unstudied and anecdotal. I think the food tastes great but is unhealthy. I think people smoke more tobacco.
I think in the deeper south it is extraordinarily hot too long and that deters sufficient exercise for average people. I think Republican policies which prefer austerity and guns to butter
policies contribute to less available availability of hospital care and doctors. Those I do not intend to support by hunting down facts. Just opinions because I have some experience there and elsewhere
with none of that.


If is was just to make a descriptive statement, then pointing out that mortality is higher among blacks and the South has a higher percentage of blacks than other regions just gives a more complete description. There is nothing racist about pointing out that fact unless a person claims a genetic predisposition or inferiority.

Your argument here seems to be a little knowledge is not a dangerous thing. If I say the sky is blue, and it is. You informing me that violet exists to give the overall impression actually misinforms. Follow me? So I disagree but I'll put a pin in it.

If a region has more blacks who have higher mortality, lower educational level, and higher crime rate, then it is only rational that the entire region would be higher in mortality and crime and lower in education because blacks bring down the average. If you look at education, for example, there is not much difference between each individual race in all the states. The factor that affects the education score of all students in a state is the percentage of minorities in each state.

Here I disagree primarily on the causation. You must tease them out and be more specific. Are the black people in the south having higher mortality, lower education and higher crime rates than your "control" Are the non black people in the south also having higher mortality, lower education and higher crime rates than your external control of non-blacks elsewhere? I could go on. Suspend debate on that for brevity.

But I suspect race was brought up because the original OP was not to just make a descriptive statement, but it was to further the bigoted agenda of some JPP posters suggesting Southern whites are somewhat less than human and inferior. Other posters brought up the race issue to counter the stupid and bigoted remarks about Southern whites by pointing out much of the mortality rate (and other demographics) is partly due to a large black population.

I'll respond to the first sentence by saying "duh" Some JPP posters do that because of the extremely disgusting bigots who are given succor in this shithole. Piling on black people is unthinkably disgusting and classless. Anyone who does that deserves anything they get in return.

Those same posters squealed for glee when the hurricanes and floods were drowning Southern crackers while it was primarily hitting large urban areas with large minority populations that voted Democratic. Their pretend disdain for racism is hypocrisy at its worst when they hate and denigrate any other group.

Yes, I was not arguing with your facts, only the motivation for trying to denigrate Southern whites. The reason for bringing up blacks is because that crowd pretends to be sympathetic to minorities and I don't think they would be pointing out that blacks have a higher mortality (although true) because they don't want to be critical of minorities.

I'm not sure about the hospitals. I know a lot of rural area hospitals have been closing but that is true nationally.

I’m merely pointing out that where I live is more comfortable, year round, than many, if not most, places in the South. With a crime rate a fraction of all the places I cited.

Boise Metropolitan population is somewhere over 700,000. I can go to the philharmonic, first class concert or Broadway play or catch trout in the river within yards of each other. I can snow ski or sail and water ski within an hour from my house. Sun Valley is only a couple hours away. I can hike or bike in the miles of foothill trails or choose to use the 25 mile long path that follows the beautiful river. The Snake River Aquifer runs right under us, ensuring an ample water supply. Never have borrowed water from anybody. The Boise River, just a mile and a half from my house has plenty of water. For fishing and recreating.

Funny you should compare yourself to the Midwest. For climate, another massive shithole.

You mention Mountain Home, a town out in the middle of the fucking desert. They aren’t borrowing water from California, stupid fuck. They’re using it from the BOISE RIVER, right next door, which has an excess of water.

When it gets that cool down here, it's almost always night time and the sky is crystal clear. Why? Because our cold weather comes in the form of cold fronts, which consist of a mass of cold, dry air that sweeps down from a northwesterly direction and pushes the warm, moist air and clouds ahead of it, out of its way. So our cold snaps are usually preceded by either warm, damp air with clouds and rain that sweeps across the state in one day, or just warm air and clouds. But it rarely if ever drops into the 40's during the daytime. That is almost exclusively a night time temperature.

And as far as the summer rain is concerned, as I also told you already, our summer rain comes in the form of thunderstorms, the frequency of which varies from year to year. Some years it seems we get them almost everyday, but most years, we get them three or four days a week with dry days in between. And the storms don't last all day. The mornings are sunny and hot, then by early to late afternoon the sky turns dark, the temperature drops about 20°, the wind picks up and then we get the downpour. An hour or two later, the sun is either back out again, or it's late enough in the afternoon it's beginning to set.

And this only lasts about 3 months.

For 8 or 9 months a year, it's like heaven down here.

Especially when the north is blanketed in snow and ice.

Not a flake of snow at my place, pal. We get less than 20” of snow for the year. When it does snow, it’s usually gone in a day or two. 12” or so of rain. In the summer, we can actually spend ALL DAY outside without getting soaked.

Been in the South when it was in the 40s. Miserable cold.

You get 3 clear days a month and half rain. That’s shit climate.

90 degrees and 70% humidity is a heat index of 106. And you have months of that shit. Know what the heat index is here when it’s 90 in the summer? About 88.
