Southerns drag their knuckles into the new millennium

Adkinson's sister, Mindy Bryan, attended a segregated prom in 2001.

"There was not anybody that I can remember that was black," she said. "The white people have theirs, and the black people have theirs. It's nothing racial at all."

This is moronic.

What if a white teenage boy wants to take a black girl Which prom do they go too? Both? lol

BTW: this sounds exactly like Dixie. Remember when he said Alabama laws prohibiting inter-racial marriage, was based on biblical scripture - and, was not in fact, racist?

It's just insane. Its 2007.

I was thinking the exact same thing, regarding Dixie.

Must be a Georgia thing.
La didn't even do that 25 yrs ago.

topper, Lousiana is unique. At least south louisiana is.

With all the creoles, mulattos, and cajuns there, you can't tell who is white and who is black. It's all mixed! ;)

You know what? In all seriousness, I don't think the rural south is going to truly face up to its dark past, and permanently change until everyone over the age of 35 there is dead.

I think the younger generation is starting to break away from their klan forefathers. But, everyone Dixie's age and up, has been emotionally and psychologically bound to their outdated beliefs and traditions.

your prob right cypress,
we all mix in Nawlins and it seemed wierd like another country that Ga doesn't.
But we are prob the exception rather than the rule.

Ugh.........sadly, you're probably right.

More quotes from the article:

"I've asked, 'Why can't you come?' and they're like, 'My mommy and daddy -- they don't agree with being with the colored people,' which I think is crazy," she said.

ummm first off, who the hell at 17 or 18 y/o refers to their parents as "Mommy and Daddy".....TO OTHER PEOPLE.

"agree with being with colored people"?........LOL, I can't wait for the Mexicans to start taking their jobs.....(j/k)

"Valerie McKellar echoed that sentiment as she watched white and black students pose together.

"That is so fake. There is nothing real about that," she said."

Dixie's niece.

"Dixie's niece"

LOL

Here we see yet another failure of secular science education in the south. I'm sure most of these kids believe in Adam and Eve, the garden of eden, and all that stuff. Dixie is an expert on that stuff: He told me something about how the "coloreds" were first created. Something to do with the Tower of Babel, I think.

If secular science education were ever able to penetrate into the deep south, and into these knucklheads minds, maybe they could start realizing that all of us - all human beings - are children of africa. All of us are descended from a small group of humans that migrated out of east africa.

Sadly, Intelligent design, and biblical interpretations of the creation of the "coloreds" must rule the day in Dixie's homeland.

:(

Absolulely unbelievable. I'd never move to the south if this is a representation of their "educational" system.

to be fair Tiana, this is a small town in the rural south.

I suspect large urban areas like Atlanta or Charlotte are more enlightened.

Tiania, you're being a bigoted bitch. I've never heard of a segregated prom in my entire life - and I live in fucking Mississippi! Give up on trying to find flaws with us already! God damn, it's almost an obsession with you!

Sounds like a bit of embarrassment that this prom was in the South...

I've heard of big cities where they have begun segregation at proms rather than integration. I'll see if I can find a story on it.

Yes, both.

Neither is a school sponsored event, all funds are raised by the students, and the students work it out amongst themselves regarding non-conflicting days. It's by mutual agreement of the students, not a school policy.
