State's Rights

Florida has a "Stand your ground" law in which a person who believes they are threatened is not required to retreat as they are in most States. However, it's pretty apparent that Zimmerman provoked this confrontation so the "Stand your ground" law should not apply. Anyways, that is the law the police have cited for not arresting Zimmerman.

I'm aware of the rule and I don't disagree with it. In this case from what I've seen this guy was the aggressor and should be charged with murder.

The tape is the most incriminating thing, without a doubt. He was told on the phone to back off and stop following the victim, and he didn't. He stalked him, and expressed what was clear pent-up frustration.

Those who think he was acting in self-defense point out that there appears to have been a scuffle, but I can't imagine a law that can protect you when you're the one who provokes that scuffle.

The gated community this occurred in, Retreat at Twin Lakes, is predominantly white. The police did not prosecute this murder. The feds have to step in. The victim is a young black male. I understand that some righties just have very simplistic thought processes, I'm sorry, all righties, and they actually believe that since a Hispanic shot a black guy this must be gang related and anyway, what's the big to-do? But that is not what happened.

This was a lynching, and the only way the black victim will get justice is because of the federal government. If you don't get what that has to do with a strong federal government vs state's rights, I don't think I can help.
I don't know if I'd over play the race card. I worked as a security guard when i was in college and you shouldn't underestimate the psychological power trip some people get from posessing a gun and a little authority. With the wrong person, AKA Zimmerman, it can prove lethal.

When I worked security most of the employees were either young college students or retirees making an extra buck. There were also a lot of "Cop Wannabees". These were guys who took the job waaaay to serious, worked their asses off to get a gun permit and were always getting rejected for jobs as police officers (thank God) cause they simply didn't have the intelligence to be a police officer. Most of these guys would work the rest of their lives at minimum wage security guards as long as they got to wear a badge and a gun. I envision Zimmerman as being one of these types and not some skin headed racist.

I don't. He was found "suspicious" precisely because he was black in a white, gated, neighborhood.

And then, his murder was not prosecuted, because he was black.

There are half a dozen other threads on it. Google is your friend, moron.
I just figured Darla might have had more info before she threw down the DOJ link, first, but it looks like that would've been a little too honest for her.

what the hell does this shooting have to do with states rights, Libertarians, sausage, or attracting women? have you been drinking already Darla?

No, I usually do some lines in the morning because that can't be smelled on your breath. I don't hit the bottle till happy hour, you know, lunch time.

What does it have to do with state's rights? Okay, well, historically blacks have not supported state's rights but rather have voted for a strong federal government.

Do you have any idea why that may be, and how this case may reinforce that?

It's weird how it's mostly white males who cry about state's rights, and who also tend to join the Libertarian party, the party that loves sausage - but not browned. Why they can't attract women is no mystery - cause hey, bitches be crazy! But their inability to attract black men has long been the rubik's cube of politics. No one can figure it out!

I'm sure it has nothing to do with the fact that in the year 2012, a black male can still be lynched in this country and not face state murder charges.

DOJ, FBI Opens Investigation Of Trayvon Martin Death

Federal authorities have opened a formal investigation into the death of Trayvon Martin, an unarmed 17-year-old black teenager shot by a neighborhood watch captain in Sanford, Florida. DOJ's full statement.

Why would a black man who had been lynched face murder charges? Shouldn't it be the person/people that lynched him that face the charges?

Also... what the fuck does this have to do with the Libertarians?

Yes... women are crazy.

I really despise that law. Our legislators just passed the Castle Doctrine in 2011 and as far as I'm concerned, it's like handing some nuts a license to kill.

I phrased that badly, good catch. Your badge is in the mail. I was doing my nails at the same time I wrote that.

I think I explained several times what it has to do with the Libertarian ideology?

strong federal government or not is irrelevant. The DOJ/feds have authority to investigate state abuses of power, or even inaction in cases, of this nature. So your rant is really nothing more than just an inane rant that has no basis in fact. The issue in this instance, and what I believe to be your 'beef' with it, is that this shooting was done by a citizen and not an agent of the state of florida. As such, the feds should have no jurisdiction UNLESS there can be proven evidence that the state ignored or screwed up the investigation. So far, none of that has been shown.

the rest of your rant.....well maybe you should start checking the quality of whatever it is you're snorting. check it for laundry detergent or something.

BTW it's good to see you back. A lot of people were worried about you after that beating you took and your disappearance. I've received quite a few PM's imploring me to go easier on you in the future. Damo also told me he can't afford to lose a prolific poster. Your reemergence takes the heat off me.

Yes, they have that authority because in this country, we are protected by a strong fed.

And no I don't have a "beef" with the DOJ opening up this investigation. But it sure sounds like you do. I wonder why?
