I think he is hung up in SOP mode Runyon.
I guess it is a valuable thing when hung up in the military/cop mindset.
Thankfully I have avoided that mindset.

I know too many cops that would find him such a detriment, professionally especially. Personally too, though they would be too smart to deal with him more than once on that level, if he's anything in person like on the net. One shivers at being related to such.

I was referring to the unquestioning by the book apporach and not, considering other options.
Of course in the police force and esp. in the military this attitude is strongly promoted.

Just too much rebel in me for the military to convert me though ;)

Well, threatening suicide and getting surrounded by cops is a clear indication of suicidal tendencies. This gentleman, had the result been different, would not have been sent to the front lines, he would have been given a General Discharge. Therefore the whole, "He would have been a danger to his comrades" is a moot argument and a waste of typing energy.

That is where I was going with that.

Now back to the topic and the analyzing of the response that you want so desperately to avoid and keep repeating SOP as if that is the only answer to all actions even while analyzing after the fact.

LOL, by getting locked up/busted in rank, etc :) As I can personally attest to, on more than one occasion.


I do understand it is necessary to maintain order ansd such, but it has some negative aspects.

I'm having a hard time with your train of thought..the dude made his bed and lost in the game of life...no one is at fault except him...pure and simple!
 
the military does not properly screen for those that cannot handle the stress of combat. He did however enlist, so it is basically his own fault.

Somebody made some suggestion that the guy would be on the front lines and detrimental to others had there been a different result. I simply have given what actually would happen had the gentleman survived his bout of serious depression.
