Do linemen have the right to negotiate for the conditions of their employment?
Sure. But many times the prices are set by the customer. They pay units instead of hourly or salary.
Do linemen have the right to negotiate for the conditions of their employment?
Untrue.
One job I had was to drill and tap steel doors for the door closure mechanisms and the push bars.
I had to pick them up from a pallet, carry them for about 6 ft, put them on the table, drill and tap one side, flip them over and drill and tap the other side, and then carry them another 6 ft to another pallet.
They weighed 200lbs each.
I figured it up one day and I had moved 16 short tons (2000 lbs = 1 ton) of doors.
Yup. I know blue collar types who make 6 figure incomes in the machine and contruction trades.
How long ago....or, or short ago was that? Also....do you work for someone, or are you self employed?
LOL Yea......though a college educated professional there's been a lot of times when my work was blue collar in that I had to work outside, lift heavy stuff and get dirty.....though I was very well compensated.Exactly. And how dare they think they are worth what a Superfreak is worth! This cannot be tolerated! This is why you see all the guys going sideways here. Look at it this way too - a guy like that you know he is building up some muscle, has a nice tan from being outside a lot in the case of construction, he's strong...if the Harvey Milktoasts of the world can't outspend these guys, what the hell are they going to do?? Oh there's a lot on the line here Mott. YOu know what I am talking about.
Probably why he has back troubles now!
I worked 16 years in the construction trades.
Learned everything from running electical wire, building a roof, interior framing, finish work. etc.
I don't recommend it as a long term employment.![]()
Not for morons anyway.
I've worked with quite a few tradesmen from the construction industry in the past. Masons, fabricators, millrights, etc. The master level guys were mind blowing in what they could do and build.I worked 16 years in the construction trades.

I am 47 years old and can still carry 2 60lb backs of concrete at a time from a truck to anywhere within 30 feet. Two weeks ago, helping someone pour a patio I carried two 80 lb bags of portland cement at the same time, only about 10 feet, but I can still move almost 200 lbs. 2x a week I flip tractor tires across across a field for strength and cardio.True, a large person in great condition can carry 200 #
A lot of us that work behind a desk still are in shape. You don't have to work a physical job to stay in shape.Exactly. And how dare they think they are worth what a Superfreak is worth! No it's not. It's hard productive work. So what does skill have to do with it? What is wrong with their negotiating for their conditions of employment? I haven't received an honest answer to that question yet.
