Untrue.

One job I had was to drill and tap steel doors for the door closure mechanisms and the push bars.
I had to pick them up from a pallet, carry them for about 6 ft, put them on the table, drill and tap one side, flip them over and drill and tap the other side, and then carry them another 6 ft to another pallet.
They weighed 200lbs each.
I figured it up one day and I had moved 16 short tons (2000 lbs = 1 ton) of doors.

Yup. I know blue collar types who make 6 figure incomes in the machine and contruction trades.

Exactly. And how dare they think they are worth what a Superfreak is worth! This cannot be tolerated! This is why you see all the guys going sideways here. Look at it this way too - a guy like that you know he is building up some muscle, has a nice tan from being outside a lot in the case of construction, he's strong...if the Harvey Milktoasts of the world can't outspend these guys, what the hell are they going to do?? Oh there's a lot on the line here Mott. YOu know what I am talking about.

LOL Yea......though a college educated professional there's been a lot of times when my work was blue collar in that I had to work outside, lift heavy stuff and get dirty.....though I was very well compensated. :)

Probably why he has back troubles now!

I worked 16 years in the construction trades.
Learned everything from running electical wire, building a roof, interior framing, finish work. etc.
I don't recommend it as a long term employment. :)

I've worked with quite a few tradesmen from the construction industry in the past. Masons, fabricators, millrights, etc. The master level guys were mind blowing in what they could do and build.

I spent my first two years in the environmental field as the lacky of a master fabricator. He was another Jesse James type. He called me "fetch" because I was so mechanically inept that I was only good for fetching him tools. Learned more about leadership from him than all the professional types who have mentored me over the years. He was smart enough to know I was never, ever going to be a fabricator so he didn't even bother to show me how to even so much as a tack weld. He knew what my strengths were and valued them and I quickly became his #2 guy on the crew even though the only thing I could fix was with a hammer.....permanently! LOL In fact he used to say that to the guys when he needed a hammer. "Would you get me Mott's favorite tool."

I am 47 years old and can still carry 2 60lb backs of concrete at a time from a truck to anywhere within 30 feet. Two weeks ago, helping someone pour a patio I carried two 80 lb bags of portland cement at the same time, only about 10 feet, but I can still move almost 200 lbs. 2x a week I flip tractor tires across across a field for strength and cardio.

A lot of us that work behind a desk still are in shape. You don't have to work a physical job to stay in shape.

good for you soc.

I use my dogs as exersize buddies playing with and walking them.

I also use the yard the same way.

My yard is this awesome black soil with rounded boulders all through it.

glacial rocks on an ancient river bed.

I am constantly moving these boulders around from one place to another for garden beds or sinking them for walkways and such.

I have to be outside about half the day.

No it's not. It's hard productive work. So what does skill have to do with it? What is wrong with their negotiating for their conditions of employment? I haven't received an honest answer to that question yet.

There is nothing wrong with it. We are discussing whether all retailers etc... Should be forced by the government to raise wages. Let the unskilled try on their own... Or even as a union. But keep uncle Sam out of it.

That is simply her way: to demean us rather than actually addressing the topic.

She also whines a lot about us being mean to desh... Yet look how she treats tom on every thread she sees him in...
