Taiwan

Do you mean that Taiwan was never a province of the People's Republic of China? Because it was a province in Imperial China, and is technically the last remaining province of the Republic of China, so it is hard to say Taiwan was never a province in China.

Taiwan was a bit unified with Mainland China for a couple of years 75 years ago. Before that, it was last unified with Mainland China 128 years ago. And the people do not want to be unified with the People's Republic of China. It is time to just let them live separately.

The USA and UK have a historical link, and the same language(more or less), but we do not need to be forcibly reunified. It would be a bad thing for either Ukraine or Taiwan to be forcibly reunified.

1895 was 128 years ago, and 1945-1949 was about 75 years ago, so you are just confirming what I said.

There is no one alive from the Imperial Chinese period, and few people alive from the Chinese Civil War, and besides Taiwan was never really fully integrated with Mainland China during the Chinese Civil War.

There are so many disputes in the world without clear demarcations. To make a border, you have to take away from some people on either side of the border. The Taiwanese-Chinese dispute is a breath of fresh air on that regard. There is a clear border, separated by more than 100 miles of water. There are not people on the wrong side of that border. This should be the easiest conflict ever to solve....

Sadly, China is not letting it be easily solved.

See you can do it when you want to, however must point out that Taiwan has never been a province of China.

well, there was that time back in the 1400s.....

Protesters in Hong Kong will hold a celebratory, pro-US rally Thursday after President Donald Trump gave them what one prominent activist termed a “timely Thanksgiving present.”

Trump signed an act in support of the protest movement

despite a potential backlash from Beijing that could derail delicate US-China trade talks, after it was passed almost unanimously by both houses of Congress.

Anti-government protesters in the semi-autonomous Chinese city have long campaigned in favor of the bill – which would permit Washington to impose sanctions or even suspend Hong Kong’s special trading status over rights violations. Trump’s decision to sign the act gives the movement a second major symbolic victory in a matter of days.On Sunday, pro-democracy candidates scored a landslide victory in district council elections, framed as a de-facto referendum on the protest movement, which began in June in opposition to a controversial extradition bill but has grown to include demands for greater democratic freedoms and inquiries into alleged police brutality.

Poor Walter is always wrong.

I've only seen Bull Dog or Rooster fights from movie clips, but normally One dog or Rooster will kill the other, or mame them for life in a fight- as these are normally settled in a fight til death. And I can also say, even the winner may walk away mamed for life. SO they are very cruel.

Well, every Super-Power on the globe knows and understands the same is true, if in a major clash between any two Super-Powers. In other words, in a clash with China, whoever starts the clash may very will draw back a knub and certainly risk losing the farm. No one wants this. The Super powers are all made up of intelligent leaders who know and understand the risk.

This is why, it has been such a conundrum for any Superpower to understand why Russia would throw down on a Sovereign country and risk a 3rd World War by challenging NATO at such a time in the new Century. And now Russia has isolated itself from the Free World, weakened it's own military, it's own GNP, severely damaging the welfare of their own populace, with this shot in their own head in a Real Estate dispute that is illegal, immoral, and insane. Russia is now a terrorist nation and their leader is now a war criminal and in hiding.

So our relationship with China has become center stage and more important now than ever before.

Joe Biden and Xi's relationship goes back to when they first met, when they were both VP's, and even though they have much to disagree on, they also have a lot of things in common, and they both know their own political positions are now at risk depending on how the future relationship between the United States and China fleshes itself out going forward.

But, I definitely feel much better after seeing the effort by the United States and China to normalize relations now at a time when they went adrift during and after the Covid Crises.
