Tancredo got out of serving in Vietnam by claiming mental illness

Yeah, he started "planning" it at 13 before we had even done anything in Viet Nam. That's because he is psychic and had mind-control powers over his parents and was able to get them to pay money they didn't have for counselling.

LOL. This is great. So let me get this straight. He'd already finished his treatment for anxiety and depression and wasn't pychologically fit to serve in Vietnam, and now this same SOB thinks he's psychologically fit to serve as CIC of that same military?

LMAO. Man you cons crack me up.

Not diagnosed....
but yes.
I am not even sure if my county had a shrink in it at that time.
And hence the difference between your issue and Tom's. Tom showed up didn't ask for a deferment, thought that spending more time in school to distance himself from that time of his life might allow him in, then was still rejected when they found the diagnosis on his medical record.

Even though he no longer took the medication he was rejected for that reason.

One more time. Tom realistically understood that he wasn't going to be the R Nominee. He simply ran in this primary to bring some of the debate over to an issue he felt was important. In that he was very successful.

Ask Cypress, I have not said I would vote for Tom. When he asked I made it clear who I support in this Primary.

Yes, there would. He finished college and showed up as he was supposed to. Had he requested another deferment I might agree. But as it is, he was rejected, not deferred.

LOL. Oh, so you'd only agree on the 5th deferment and not the 4th?!:p

translation: he's full o' $hit

I was under the misapprension that presidential candidates actually wanted the job. My bad.

I think deferments for education are valid and that many people took those deferments before later joining.

I think you are desperate to find something wrong with somebody who showed up and was rejected.

Rubbish. I spoke on this as he entered the race. You were under no such impression unless you have memory issues.

That's just dumb.

Do you think Dennis Kucinich actually believes he might win? Fuck no. He's doing it to bring attention to himself and his personal issue priorities.

Sorry. I'm not buying it.

It's hard to simply hear people trash your friend on a board over something like this.

I'll get out of the thread.

Actually he showed up before the board, they found the diagnosis, he was rejected.

I would agree he was a "dodger" had he done this as a plan. Decided to "fake" depression so that he could get deferred. However, that is not the case.

Clinton ultimately showed up to the draft board when his deferments ran out, and his name was submitted for the lottery draft. I'm quite sure that you have been an eager advocate defending clinton against draft dodging charges. ;)

What it comes down to for me, is that Tom was cheerleading the war throughout his college days, and collecting as many student deferments as he could. The fact that he had parent who had the financial resources to send him to a shrink when he was 15 was something that was not available to other poor kids who may have had mental health problems too, but who's parents couldn't afford a shrink.

It smells. A democrat would never be allowed to spin their way out of that.

Try reading what I said one more time before responding:

"I was under the misapprension that presidential candidates actually wanted the job. My bad."

they were pretty selective during Vietnam. had that been WW1 or WW2. they wouldn't care.

Yeah they sure were selective. A lot of Republicans tried to get in, but much like today, they were rejected for a variety of reasons. Some for having cysts on their asses, like Rush Limbaugh. Others had other priorities and as soon as the draft board heard that, they were like, hey, if you got other priorities, you are not getting into this war, because we are only taking draftees who have going to a hot jungle and getting killed or captured and tortured, as their number one priority.

Oh, and also black guys and poor guys.

But if you’re not black or poor, you can get your self-centered ass back home, whitey! We don’t need your self-involved shit in this army!

Sorry. I'm not buying it.
I don't care if you are "buying" it, what I care about is the reality. Tom believed that he could place distance between the diagnosis and when he entered and that it might be overlooked. It was not, he was rejected.

Of course. When have I said he was a dodger? I even stated that I likely would have dodged that particular one myself and later had to explain my actions.
