Younger people are much less likely to die of the lurgy, certainly, but decent young people in sensible countries would not like to live with the thought of having infected their grandparents and others they care about, and who are much more likely to die or feel the guilt for the rest of their time.

The reason a vaccine is novel is because similar vaccines have never, or rarely worked before. So yes, being novel means that it has a less than the 20% chance a standard vaccine has of working.
Statistics are based on past success. The standard vaccines have a past success rate of about 20%. The novel vaccines have a past success rate closer to 0%. With viruses where immunity fades quickly, success rates have been much lower.
Maybe we will get lucky... BUT IT WILL JUST BE LUCK!!!
