You ever talk to an old timer hunter? Way back when, there were no deer east of the Rockies. The movie Bambi showed deer in the Rockies, because Easterners would never have seen deer. Back during the Great Depression, there was no much hunting in the east, because it had all been hunted out.
Even before that, Native Americans had trained for thousands of years to live in the Americas, but they died out when Europeans started hunting all the food.
Now imagine if 330 million people all walk into the woods trying to get food. There would be literally nothing left. There is a reason that we use farming rather than hunting and gathering, because it generates more food.
The fact is outside of wars trapping people somewhere, all the modern starvation happens in the countryside. If you are dependent on the food you yourself create, then if that fails you have nothing. Meanwhile, as long as there is some food somewhere, I can buy it. I produce such an extreme economic surplus, I would need to lose 99.9% of my value to starve to death. That would be nearly impossible.
