It's peculiar that conservatives want tough sentencing, mandatory sentencing, and admittedly that will mean a greater cost to the government to lock more people up for longer times, but they never address where these additional funds are supposed to come from. All they want is permanent tax cuts for the rich and temporary ones for everybody else. As if that is not hypocritical enough, then they complain about the rising debt and blame it on liberals.

In a great country people understand that greatness has a price and that price is taxing the rich more.

If you have mediocre taxing then you have a mediocre country.

Government is not free.

We do have a minimum wage in the USA. We require employers to pay at least this much. It is not even a livable wage, but it sets a baseline for all wages. But we operate at a double-standard if the products we buy were not manufactured by workers who are subject to our standards. What we need to do is require that any product shipped into the USA is the result of labor that earns at least as much as US workers. We obviously cannot do that instantly, but we need to make that a goal and set guidelines to work towards that end. It will cost some NYSE profits, but it will protect American workers and make our economy stronger.

If we continue to buy products that undercut our workers then what we are doing is shipping our dollars and wealth overseas in return for a bunch of stuff that is mostly destined to end up in the landfill. Not qa good process to maintain for any great period of time.
