I am not trying to change the definition of the word belief. That is something often hidden from view...and something we ought bring into the light and always keep in mind when discussing religious "beliefs."

I am merely saying that in the context of religion...a "belief" is just a blind guess about the unknown.

In specific...a "belief" that there are no gods...is nothing but a blind guess about the REALITY of existence. Likewise, a "belief" that there is a GOD and that the Bible tells us what the GOD finds pleasing and finds offending...is nothing but a blind guess about the REALITY of existence.

You think "beliefs" deserve "a reasonable level of basic respect."

I don't! Certainly not the kind of "respect" asked for by some people.

I think a blind guess should be treated like a blind guess.

I certainly don't think it should be given the kind of respect that requires us to use that blind guess to formulate laws.
