A few years after leaving office, he became chairman and chief executive officer of Halliburton, a Houston-based oil services company. He led Halliburton until 2000, when he left to run for vice president on a ticket with George W. Bush. The Iraq war began a few years later.

No.. they can't get enough experienced Americans to work oil services in the ME and they have ALWAYS used local contractors. They have effective relationships and experience that others simply don't have.

They shouldn't be cast as "native workers".. They are professionals.. engineers and such. This is not 1950.

Cheney knows NOTHING about the oil business. He was hired for his DC contacts to be a lobbyist. Remember, he's the bozo who said the US would pay for the war with Iraq oil. What a fool.
 
The various media are not united.
We have the print media.
We have the blogosphere.
We have internet social media.
We have the various electronic media--radio, broadcast television, cable television, satellite television, and streaming television.

No one medium is owned by either major ideology.

I find MSNBC to be the most reliable television news and the most cogent television commentary.

The New York Times and the Washington Post have both been doing an excellent job revealing the inadequacy of this
administration in print form. Print is where it's possible to expound in far greater detail than is possible on cable news.

I think we have a far greater problem with the news receivers than we do with the messengers.
Too many Americans lack the civic responsibility to make themselves knowledgeable and informed.
Too many live in isolation from meaningful cultural discourse.

We have too many people listening to close minded preachers and not enough listening to elite, accomplished educators.

It's not morally acceptable to be content with being one of the village idiots.
The good person craves to expand the vistas of his/her mind.

I know the oil business, you idiot. The oil business HATES a war zone. Iraqi oil was in the crapper for 10 years and I stopped counting at 650 acts of sabotage.

They hired him as a lobbyist for 4 years... because of his Washington DC connections.

He wasn't working for the government while he was lobbying his friends to try and get the government to lift sanctions on Iraq, Libya and the Stans.
