The myth of voter fraud

Federal law cannot tolerate election statutes that make it harder for minority citizens to vote.

Under the Voting Rights Act, states and localities that in the past limited voting rights of certain parts of the electorate must get changes to their voting laws pre-approved by the Department of Justice.

The states that fall under this provision include Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina and Texas.

Since 2008, a series of measures, advanced by Republican-controlled state legislatures, have been passed that could limit participation by the so-called Obama coalition: Blacks, Hispanics and young voters.

Some of the laws, such as the one in Texas, would make it harder for college students to vote if they only have student identification, while the voter id laws are expected to impact Blacks and Latinos.

What relevance does that have to voter suppression efforts by the GOP?

It is relevant to the post, is the AG corrupt and why do people think so? Add to that the effort to stop laws that pass judicial muster and you get a fat "yes"...

Why do you continue to forget the relevance of context?

I don't get the allegation of "corruption".

The Fast and Furious case is under investigation, and that issue is wholly separate from the enforcement of the VRA.

That's cool, at least you admit it when you don't understand things. You "don't get" corruption when it means talking about somebody in the Obama Administration, but attempt to find it in the most inconsequential action of anybody on "the right".

The "Fast and Furious" case is "under investigation"... The controlling legal authority is investigating itself? (hint: This is pretty much the definition of corruption.) Add to that the fight against valid laws found by the courts to be supportive of rights...

Maybe you have a different definition of "corruption" than the legal one, which is here:

Last I heard, members of Congress were investigating Fast and Furious. Who would you prefer conduct the inquiry?

Which "valid laws" are you referring to?

The DOJ is closely scrutinizing new photo ID laws in South Carolina and Texas, which could disenfranchise thousands of eligible voters, and restrictions on voter restriction drives in Florida.

Under Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act, DOJ has the authority to “preclear” or reject these laws in the 16 states covered by the VRA.

The department could also block the laws under Section 2 of the Act, which "prohibits voting practices or procedures that discriminate..."

The plan is right on track except Obama got elected because the right could not cheat enough to win last time arround

the fast ande furious thing is bullshit and it started under the Bush admin

Actually we covered this before. It didn't. The Bush Admin immediately closed down Wide Receiver when they realized that the measures they took to track the weapons were inadequate, they "let" about 120 weapons cross when the bad guys waited for the planes to need refueling and then ran for the border.

The Obama Admin, Eric Holder et al, (the email trail shows he knew about it waaaay earlier than he tries to say he did) opened an entirely different program that actually used no tracking device at all other than "we'll find the weapons later at crime scenes"... Some agents, against orders, tried to attach their own tracking devices but those were even less effective than the ones Bush's admin tried. They allowed, in just one state (there were five others with this program running) 12,000 weapons to cross the border, untracked and without even a real attempt made to track the weapons. One of which (at least one) was found at the scene of the murder of one of our own agents. They sold the guns to murderers, who later used them to murder one of our own agents....

Yeah, corruption it is. If I were the Mexican government I would see it as an act of war. It's no wonder Chavez believes that the US is corrupt enough to "give cancer" to leaders in South America...

Interesting that you continue to claim "corruption".

While I don't disagree with your point of view on Gunwalker/Fast and Furious, I don't see how either involved corruption.

I also would like to see you explain the relevance of that issue to the DOJs' enforcement of the VRA.

The corruption comes in the coverup, Holder lying about when he "knew", and the fact that the legal controlling authority is "investigating" itself.

And again, it has relevance to the post I quoted. Please remember to pay attention to context, or are you incapable of understanding the concept of context?

So Holder is guilty until proven innocent?
