The Mighty Democrats flex their muscles from the minority and bring the wimpy republicans to their knees!!
Did you say the Republican were "mighty" and "flexing their muscles to bring the wimpy" Democrats "to their knees" when the GOP minority in the Senate blocked the DREAM Act using the same Senate rule?
The filibuster requires 60 votes to invoke cloture and end debate, allowing a minority to prevent passage of legislation. In 2010, in the minority, filibustered the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act, which aimed to provide a path to citizenship for certain undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children. The vote for cloture failed 55-41, short of the 60 needed.
The filibuster has been a tool for both parties when in the minority to block legislation, as it forces the majority to secure a supermajority, which is often difficult. Data from the Senate’s historical records shows that between 2007-2010 (when Republicans were often in the minority), cloture votes frequently failed to reach 60, effectively stalling Democrat-sponsored bills.
