The vast majority of gun owners in this country are law-abiding citizens

Whenever my stress levels get high, I shoot. I mentioned before it was what I would do after finals when I was in college. That's what I mean by it. Some people cook, some clean, some knit, some swim, .... I target shoot or skeet shoot. I don't do it so much anymore probably because I lead a relatively stress free life.

I haven't shot skeet in years. I could see where that would be good stress relief. I just sucked at it when I did it. lol

During the previous assault weapon ban I still went to the range quite often. There is plenty of fun and therapeutic value to be had without assault rifles. As long as there is no ban on a .22 semi auto (Ruger 10/22) my daughter will still have a blast at the range.

That's fine. I just want the assault weapons ban to be reinstated, and I want to see some sensible laws in place that would prevent someone from buying 6,000 rounds no questions asked.

If we can work out some real definitions that will remove actual hazards, I have no problem with that. High capacity magazines are something I don't care for anyway. But the ability to mount a bayonet on a rifle seems an odd criteria.

I am lucky that Alabama's gun season is as long as it is. Bow season starts in mid-October and runs until jan 31st. Gun season starts the saturday before Thanksgiving and also ends Jan. 31st. We are allowed 2 deer per day, with one being a buck. When I am able to hunt more, we basically use venison as our red meat for the year.

This is true of us too. I just went to look in my freezer. I estimate that around 40% of the meat in that freezer came from the woods behind my house or the lake that I live near to. I have plenty of venison, plenty of fish, and a few packages of rabbit and squirrel. The rest of the red meat is from my father in law who gives us half a beef every year. We do buy a little chicken and pork from the grocery. That is not to mention all of the stuff from our garden that I have frozen and canned...but I digress. I get 9 days to hunt with a muzzleloader and the bow season runs from October 1 through January 15. That is ample time to get the three deer we use to make it through the year. If I harvest any more there is a family down the road who can use whatever someone can give them ... My brother and I try to get at least two deer for them.

It is therapeutic in several ways. First, the meticulous attention to detail takes your mind off the crap of day to day life. The effort to shoot accurately can be almost a zen like experience.

Plus busting cans, water jugs and bottles can just be great run. And if you have the exploding targets, you get the fun of firecrackers added in.

For me it is also a family activity.

Thanks, but I will just continue using meditation or baking cookies, much more therapeutic to me. I also sing or dance when tensions run high.

The idea that the founders were thinking of arming every nutball with a semi-automatic so they can slaughter our children is as ludicrous as your delusion that being terrified to leave your home without an arsenal, as you are, makes you brave and not living in fear makes you a coward.

what's ludicrous is your notion that the founders created a nation just so that could happen. and just repeat the i'm rubber, you're glue kid rant. that's comedic gold showing your idiocy.

And that is just fine Rana. I don't propose shooting is for everyone just that is it what I do ... I also enjoy cooking and find it therapeutic but will only do it if I am expecting company because it don't really need to eat all of what I like to cook. ;)

I have several people I give meat to every year, if I get to hunt enough. The last few years my workload has prevented that. When I only get home for 2 days every 3 weeks, my wife sort of frowns on taking half a day on both saturday and sunday to hunt. lol

My honey-do list is too long. But that will change for the upcoming season.

I buy pork to mix with the ground venison, since it is so lean. But mostly we have that and fish. I think the venison is much healthful, which balances out the catfish which probably contains all sorts of contaminents.

I love to cook, but suck at baking. Plus my sweet tooth makes it all to easy to have an ever-expanding waistline.

I don't sing, and the people around me are grateful for that.

Comedic gold is a petrified, pants-pissing coward too terrified to leave his home without an arsenal, wracked with paranoid delusions that so many agents of some entity are coming for him and his family that he needs to stockpile machine guns, calling anyone a coward.

I think that STY's answers on this thread are very telling. When we talk about gun control in this country, all of the pundits always claim that anyone supporting gun control will lose votes because of the hunters. I know a few hunters myself, in fact my uncle was a hunter all his life. My step-father was a hunter as well. I haven't known any nutballs like STY though. How much does STY have in common with your average hunter? Is your average hunter fantasizing about overthrowing the government? I doubt it.
I can categorically state that I have nothing in common with hunters because I am not a hunter.

This rich paranoid fantasy life that the nuts lead where they are stockpiling weapons for the day they take on the United States government is laughable. Of course STY would be vaporized immediately. Sane people know this.
yeah, sane people make psychic predictions every day.

Most hunters and even many dues-paying NRA members would and do support the Assault Weapons Ban, Why are we allowing the inmates to run the asylum?
because there are more of us who believe in resisting tyranny than there are NRA members. do you know what we call the NRA?? Negotiate Rights Away.

The fishin my freezer is mostly crappie and goggle-eye, with a few packages of small bass. You are right about the venison, I think. I have read that it is much better for a person than other red meats...unless they already have gout.

No there aren't more of you militia nuts than NRA members. But I'm sure you believe that.

never happen, and if it does by chance happen, know that the body count goes up.

You don't even hunt...hmmmm, you are or of those people I would be keeping an eye on.

sure it is LOL, just like you say you're not afraid to walk out of your house without a gun, but you're terrified that I have one. no fear there, eh? gold, i say.

With STy you never know if this is a threat or prediction.

Either way if the government ever does come and get you, and to be clear, in your case that belief is not necessarily paranoid I have no doubt you've raised some flags, you'll be vaporized just like the rest of them thought they were going to hold their hill. :)
