The bottom line is if ABC had said "Trump is a rapist" Trump's lawsuit would have been dismissed. That is because anyone can freely say this and Trump can't claim defamation.

Stephanopoulos' producer told him MULTIPLE times. George ignored him and it cost ABC 16,000,000.00 dollars. ABC would not have paid Trump 16 million if Stephanopoulos was right. The NY jury specifically said Trump did not rape Carroll. Have someone that can read the verdict to you.

Trump is a Rapist!

If he had simply made that statement, the lawsuit against ABC would have been tossed immediately. The jury didn't find Trump committed rape as defined by NY law in the 90s. But they did find that Trump committed sexual assault as defined by NY law in the 90s. The actions of Trump would be considered rape by most people and by UCMJ and by many states. The judge in a ruling said that saying Trump committed rape is not defamatory based on the facts the jury ruled on.
This court ruling means I can say the following -
Trump is a Rapist!
Can you tell us what Stephanopoulos actually said that allowed the lawsuit to go forward? I'll bet you can't.

You are correct about Stephanopoulos' wording. That is what made his statements possibly actionable. If he had simply said that
Trump was a Rapist
then there would be no actionable claim.

There is a difference between saying the evidence leads me to conclude Trump committed rape vs the jury found Trump liable for rape.
