There is clearly a serious problem at the BLS, long before now

What makes you think this latest report is accurate? It isn't like we don't have a long history of botched reports.

We don't have ANY history of "botched" reports. That's where you don't seem to understand the process. In the interest of time, they always put the report out at a certain time - but employers are often late reporting their data. Thus, revisions.

You should read about the process. Nothing is being fabricated, or "rigged." When there is a revision, it only represents more complete information than what they had.

Trump is a liar & a grifter.

I gave you the info. It is being done as it always has. The value of the MLB reports is that you can compare jobs years after year. It may be esoteric to you, but that requires sticking with the same system.` Job reports are snapshots of a changing system of hiring and firing. At no time can it be exact.
Try and get it. It;'s value is in showing jobs month by month ,year by year and comparing them to other years which are on record. Changing the system trashes all the previous records. It makes job tracking and comparisons impossible.
Comparison to a flawed system will give you flawed numbers.

They can use the old data as it stands...Time for a new, more accurate and reliable system... it shouldn't be acceptable to have employers reporting whenever they feel like it...

So, you don't know anything about how that process works. And yet you're saying they're incompetent.

You don't have to defend everything Trump does, you know. This is actually one where I've seen more than a few conservatives raise an eyebrow. Doesn't it concern you that he thinks so many things are "rigged" against him? He sounds so paranoid to me.
Unemployment has ticked up to 5.7%

When the report is inaccurate the report is botched. If your doc came and said the biopsy report shows you have cancer in your right lung and we need to remove it. If later he said the pathology report showed no cancer in the lung we just removed.

One is a botched report and the other correct based on more findings

Nothing is wrong w/ the current system. They just need employers to report more quickly on their data - and good luck w/ that while Trump is reducing the federal government dramatically.
Obviously, there is something wrong... if they're not requiring employers to take the reporting seriously...incomplete is incorrect...

It's very troubling how some MAGA's seem programmed to defend literally everything Trump does.

This one was inexcusable, and indefensible.

How do you require an employer to take something seriously? Would that be an edict? A new law? Imposing a fine?

Describe a better system. You are flailing because you are a mentally committed Trumpy who accepts whatever he throws out. This is another Trump stupid idea. Can you imagine what happens after they slash their budgets and fire workers? That is the Trump plan. He is trying to eliminate real tracking. In a year, we will no longer get jobs reports. That is what the wealthy want. Saying they want a better system and slashing the budget is another. Take time to think about it in bigger terms. Trump is trying to destroy the bureau. He is not trying to make it more accurate.
How conned are you?

Seriously? Why have a system if you can't have no control when it comes to when, where , and how the data is reported... This pretty much explains what a mess the system is... now-rcna222570.
Just make an "educated guess" or throw out a number...lol....

Trump is deregulating - he's not creating MORE regulations.

MAGA's are always about smaller government until stuff they want done right isn't done right (by their perception), or done at all.

No, it's not. "Botched" implies that the data is incorrect. When they report it, it's merely incomplete.

The only way to fix that is to delay the report. It's not to fire anyone, or any changes within the agency.
Then they should report as incomplete. The new boss can fix that situation.

I can't keep going back & forth w/ you or TOP on this. This has been a fairly one-sided discussion, and neither of you has made any kind of compelling case that anything was botched or that this person deserved to be fired.

Most rational people just see this as another example of Trump's narcissism.

Ther BLS has botching the jobs numbers for awhile...long before the Trump Adm.

Obviously, a change was sorely needed :

BLS Has Lengthy History of Inaccuracies, Incompetence

  • Today, BLS had to revise down May and June jobs reports by a combined 258,000 jobs. These previous faulty jobs reports enabled the Federal Reserve to continue its disastrous policy of keeping interest rates high.
    • On June 6, The New York Times reported: “A solid jobs report for May has reinforced the Federal Reserve’s stance that it can take its time before restarting interest rate cuts.
    • On July 3, The New York Times reported that the June jobs report “fortifies the Federal Reserve’s case that it does not need to be in a hurry to lower borrowing costs.”
    • The Daily Caller: “Including monthly revisions, the Biden administration overstated the number of jobs in the U.S. economy by 1.18 million in the year through March, accounting for approximately 36% of the 3.24 million jobs initially claimed, according to data from the BLS calculated by the Daily Caller News Foundation”

  • In July 2024, BLS revised jobs added in May of that year down by 54,000 jobs, and the jobs added in April down by 57,000 jobs.
  • In April 2024, BLS revised the jobs added in February of that year down — then further revised the number down the following month.
  • In February 2024, BLS revised the jobs added in December of the prior year down by 43,000 jobs and the jobs added in January of that year down by 124,000 jobs.
All a bunch of gas-lighting horseshit. The patients are in charge of the institution in DC now.

No control? That is the point. They are an independent agency charged with tracking employment. I gave you the system. Perhaps it was too tough for you to understand. However, its value is in using the same system. You believe whatever Trumpys say.
Can you understand that cutting the budget and the staff is not how you get more accuracy? That is what Project 2025 is doing.
The system has to be the same to compare data.

The boss is responsible for the report. The boss allowed incomplete reporting based on partial numbers to be put out as factual. How can any business make plans based on a report riddled with inaccuracies? Either delay the report or make it clear that the report is based solely on incomplete data. Putting out garbage is the worst thing you can do nobody trusts the report after you burn them with reporting one thing thing retracting it.

So, you want them to hire someone who will delay the report.

Good luck w/ that.

But why is it a problem that a report gets revised once they have all of the data? I don't mind getting a more preliminary report, and then a complete report at a later date. Nothing is "wrong." The only reason you're even thinking about this is because Trump had a temper tantrum.
