A lot of the slaves are completely willing slaves, their lack of acting independently comes more from lack of will then lack of ability. Remember too that even in not dark ages moral courage is relatively rare.

The purpose of the article is to generate sympathy for Adam Kinzinger for his having joined Pence in stabbing Trump in the back in order to curry favor with the DNC. This is supposed to make Kinzinger (and Pence) appear noble to leftists.
