Diversity Makes Greatness
Hello blackascoal,
I gave this post a thanks for the second half. Very realistic.
As for the first comment, I disagree. The right doesn't want to destroy America at all. They want to turn it into their vision which favors those with power and money, and does nothing for the disadvantaged. It's everyone for himself, and if you were born into poverty that's your fault, not theirs. They want to pay no taxes at all, or as close as they can get to it, and they expect to have the finest military in the world on a squeaker budget. They say they are interested in balancing the budget, but that's only a bluff, just big talk when Democrats are in control. Really, most of them don't care about the federal debt because it doesn't affect them personally. To most people, that's just a meaningless big number they can't identify with and don't really want to hear about.
The right used to say: "America, love it or leave it." But after years of liberal gains, now they just wish liberals would vanish so they can undo everything liberals have accomplished and remake the country in their own way. Many joke that they wish it was legal to just shoot liberals sort of like hunting season. Interestingly enough, both of these last ideas are just dumb pipe dreams and not actually very workable. The right, (and the left, for that matter,) both wish the other side would just go away. And in reality it is a good thing that never happens nor will it ever happen. Neither side realizes just how much each of us contributes to this country. They never think about all the jobs being done by people on both sides that all add up to make America what it is. It takes all of us to make this country. There is greatness in diversity.
Despite all of our disagreements, America is still an extremely cool place to live. We've got just about everything, and for those who are lucky enough to be doing OK, it's a fantastic country in which to enjoy all that we have. It's just too bad that people are so hung up on this 'we/they' thing to stop and see it. Beautiful vistas, wide open spaces, all kinds of sports and activities, art galore, variety of entertainment, just about everything you can think of!
And if we don't have enough to do and own, we keep inventing more every day. That's almost a problem because people are going in so many different directions, some really great pass times are in decline. It's almost too much. So much that people are drawn in so many different directions they can't decide what to do and fall victim to failure to commit to something. Some pass times require a lifetime of dedication to get really good at, and too few are making that level of commitment. The result is the few who do are really good, and any others who only dabble never can approach the level of the best, so they become discouraged and move on to something else, never really mastering anything.
There is so much to choose from to do or become in America that many people are bewildered by it all and simply withdraw into social media. That's not very healthy. We need more people doing things and fewer who just talk about the movers and shakers. We need more people to get out of their shell and BE one of the movers and shakers. And we strongly need a vastly improved education system so that people are better able to see beyond the marketing hype and think for themselves. Too many are victims of capitalism, mesmerized by marketing hype. I think the height of shallow thinking is exemplified in people lining up overnight, days in advance, to get the latest I Phone or whatever. I mean, good grief. Talk about people who need to get a life...
First good brother, it is incredibly naive to believe right wing republicans want any part in unifying the country. They are traitors and their goal is to see this country go down and crash and burn. That’s obvious.
Additionally, I also spent several years not only voting for Greens, but I was also a County Chair. I, like you, was wasting my vote. The Green Party doesn’t even have a proper infrastructure and no funding. It cannot be saved because it’s not a serious party. Like the two party trap between evil and lesser evil or not, I had to decide if I wanted my vote to count of if I wanted to pretend it counted. I’ve decided to work within the system to change the course of lesser evil. That’s all you can do.
