You've talked about the kind of shows you like (Mad Men, Dexter, Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad) and Downton Abbey just doesn't fit in. It's really understated compared to the others.

dexter fell off a cliff towards the end. Honestly it sucked post season 4.

Mad men, game of thrones, breaking bad, yes. all amazing tv.

probably throw rome and the wire in there to round out the top 5.

Yeah, Dexter definitely jumped the shark but I date it to when Debra found out his secret (not sure which season).

Breaking Bad definitely the best, Mad Men very good, never watched Game of Thrones. House of Cards also terrific.

I can't wait for house of cards to come back up.

I think you'll like the wire. My 55 year old mom loves it. But it is a bit jarring going from season 1 to season 2. Some people hate season 2, others think it's the greatest. Seasons 3-4 of the wire though are the best though imo.
