Torture

Then we can do away with the Geneva Conventiion!!

take the time to read the United Nations Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment. Whether you like it or not, it is the SUPREME LAW OF THE LAND here in the United States of America.

and it applies to EVERYONE, not merely enemy combatants or uniformed soldiers.

Yeah US. We're the good guys, and everyone we're fighting's the bad guys. There's no need for the geneva convention. We'll be the good guys even if we turn our youth into disgusting murderous torturing thugs.

Then which is it??
Does everyone folow the UN declarations??
Or should it be International Law??
Or do we stick to the Geneva Convention??

One man can not serve two masters, so which is it??

of course not. the geneva conventions cover a multitude of aspects of warfare. They remain as valid today as they ever were... in determining how armed military forces deal with one another during hostilities.

and I reiterate. read the convention. read the definition of torture in the convention. like it or not, that is the supreme law of the land here in the US of A.

Right after you re-read the part that defines what determines who is a POW and who ISN'T.

Everyone is protected by international law.
Except there is no executive power at all and no real power in the judicial branch. "International Law" is wholly unsupported by any power. Occasionally somebody, like the US, will come along and use it as an excuse to string up a few Germans crotchety old farts, or to invade Iraq, but in reality it is violated almost incessantly, with no fear of any retribution, by many governments in the "International community".

The executive power that enforces the geneva convention is called the "President of the United States of America" and the judicial power that enforces it is called the "Supreme Court of the United States of America", you pro-torture fascist.

do you have authority that the exact method of waterboarding violates that treaty? or is that your opinion?

international law means shit unless another country willing agrees to 1. be bound by it, 2. actually follows through with international law

if everyone is protected by international law, why did the journalist in iran get 8 years? why does NK arrest, convict numerous political enemies....

or is this another spout out extreme weirdness watermarx posts?

I'ld like to know who and when, regarding the arrest warrents for the Islamic Militants that beheaded prisoners.
Where indicments handed down, addressing the abuse of women in the ME??

I think the rest of the world may have a problem with that, hence all that widespread anti-Americanism. The US is not, and should not ever be, the "police" of the world.

:clink:

absolutely, the US is not a police state, and therefore, cannot be the police to the rest of the world. for other obvious reasons as well....

Yes but when it suits us, we can, with impunity, behave like the criminals of the world.
