They do for low-risk inmates. They don't for high-risk ones. If the healthcare system were market based and not using insurance to pay for routine care, it would be cheaper and the proof of that is the one sector that is market driven, cosmetic and related elective surgery.
Any time you put the profit in something, people will do it at a cost people are willing to pay for. If you can't you go out of business.
If that happened, it would work. It would work like 401K accounts do now. Medicare is a bloated, government bureaucracy of incredible waste and expense.

AS for "protecting their wealth" you may actually have a point. These billionaires know that you cannot put across-the-board tariffs at 60-100% and not effectively crater our own economy. Tariffs can work but as a scalpel, not a sledgehammer.
The billionaires also just saw 4 years of SKYROCKETING Wall St performance, so it's hard to imagine them wanting someone to come in and fuck around with a winning hand.

But you just told me that my record-breaking 401k returns over the last 4 years was "bad" economy. Which is it? During Biden my 401k rocketed to heights I never dreamed of.
And even then 401k's are just another means of "diy" ethos in industry. If they turn us all loose in the market and we aren't slick trader sharks we become the "funding" money that funds the games the rich and market sharks play. 401k's are NOT a good thing unless you are really good at the markets. And very few of us are.
Fixed benefit pensions were scary and sometimes expensive for companies so they made up the 401k scam and pushed everyone into it.
I'm sure you're super knowledgable about the markets and can read a P/E ratio like nobody's business, despite your overwhelming ignorance that you show on this forum every day. So I'm sure it will all work out for YOU. (LOL)
