Trump going to jail for phone call to Georgia SoS to “find 11,780 votes”

I don't see a threat. Maybe you can enlighten me.
Look, I understand Trump is an asshole (like me) , he's immature and he can't help himself as to what comes out of his mouth. I don't like him. But I just don't see a crime here. So where's the threat? And what did he threaten the SoS with?

I'll let the courts decide since they're a lot smarter about the law than you or me. But I feel pretty good about this one. A President calling a SoS of a state he lost to discuss changing the outcome? How do you feel about dictatorships?

What has been debunked? Nothing.

Trump is on recorded audio telling Raffensperger to "find votes".

You're trying to magnify a clarification the WaPo made and you're doing that because you either didn't read the clarification yourself, or you did and are trying to misrepresent what it was.

The WaPo did not retract anything about Donald Trump calling to rig the election because it's on audio.

So what are you going to believe? Damocles, or your own lying ears?

That's right. I don't know what Damocles is talking about. I've heard the audio many times.

I only need 11,000 votes. Fellas, I need 11,000 votes. Give me a break.

Trump says this as if he's asking them for a favor. He's oblivious to the fact that he's asking them to break the law.
Breaking the law is just a means to an end for Trump. Thank God Raffensberger was smart enough to record the call. Trump's voice is there for the world to hear. There's no disputing what he said.
Trump is fucked.

I'm no lawyer but I never heard of a phone call being against the law unless maybe a bribe was offered.
So if you're going to let the courts decide if he threatened anyone (which I didn't see in the transcript) why did you mention it?
Trump called, he threatened the SoS

Because it's a forum. People mention stuff on a forum. Comprende?

nobody in their right mind is afraid of trump or his political stooges, they fear his base, these brain dead gun toting yahoo's who drink bleach and take dog pills.

That's what's bothering you? There you go:

The article, published September 27, 2021, continues:

Referencing the fact that Trump would likely claim that everything he did was just part of his job as president, the report declares: “Stated simply, soliciting and then threatening senior state officials to alter the outcome of a presidential election does not fall within any reasoned conception of the scope of presidential power.”

The article actually mentions that this was an old issue too. An article that brings up an old issue does not a current event make. Now if you were talking about the more current stuff in the article maybe I'd have let it stay there. But this is old BS and shouldn't have been in the current event forum. I am not saying it doesn't belong on the site, just not in current events. Rehashing old stuff is not "current" by any stretch of the imagination.

You are right, it is not criminal; especially if you read the Washington Post correction of its original story based on a source. The corrected version is much less threatening.

Political Stooges? I thought Trump knows the best people:

There is no link to an article in the OP. This is not a current event.

I see that someone else supplied a current (9/27/21) story link. It doesn't matter where you move this thread, or if you delete it -- the ex-IMPOTUSx2 got caught in a criminal act.

I read the story, rehashing an old story in a new article still doesn't make it a current event. It makes it a new article on an old event. If I write a story and it gets published on Pearl Harbor, it does not make it "current".

Again, Current Events are CURRENT.

This is a General Politics post, not a current event.

Trump is fucked and he knows it. Good move by the SoS to record the phone call. Did I say Trump is fucked?

In a new 109-page report, D.C. think tank the Brookings Institution analyzed publicly available evidence concerning Trump’s and his allies’ efforts to pressure Georgia officials to “change the lawful outcome of the election,” concluding that the 45th president could be charged with multiple crimes. Obviously, one of the least helpful things Trump has going for him is his infamous phone call to Republican secretary of state Brad Raffensperger on January 3, during which Trump told the guy to “find 11,780 votes” to overturn Joe Biden’s win in the state. “There’s no way I lost Georgia,” Trump said numerous times throughout the call, though of course he did. “There’s no way. We won by hundreds of thousands of votes.”

The report also notes that Trump both publicly pressured and personally contacted a number of Republican officials in the state, including Attorney General Chris Carr and Governor Brian Kemp, to get their help in declaring him the victor. (The men did not go along with the plot, which might explain why Trump pretended to endorse Stacey Abrams for Georgia governor over the weekend.) The report, penned by Norman Eisen, Joshua Matz, Donald Ayer, Gwen Keyes Fleming, Colby Galliher, Jason Harrow, and Raymond P. Tolentino, notes that the then president called Carr and Kemp in December to beg them to go along with “his increasingly desperate plans to decertify his loss.” The authors warn that criminal liability could extend to Trump allies as well, including Rudy Giuliani.

Among the charges Trump himself could be hit with, the authors believe, are “criminal solicitation to commit election fraud; intentional interference with performance of election duties; conspiracy to commit election fraud; criminal solicitation; and state RICO violations,” in addition to violations of more than a dozen other Georgia state statutes. “We conclude that Trump’s post-election conduct in Georgia leaves him at substantial risk of possible state charges predicated on multiple crimes,” the report states.
well good luck with your delusion .
