She served in the Crimean War and is revered for setting standards for nursing care and practitioners. There's also Clara Barton, who founded the American Red Cross. She served in the Civil War.

Outside of Evangelical Protestantism I don't think there's an expectation that god is supposed to be personally accountable to answer all individual prayers.

But it seems to be a universal expectation of religious traditions that there is ultimately some balance in universe, and chaos and disorder do not forever hold sway. That is true if you are talking about the God of Abraham, the Tao, Li, Brahman, or the Way of Heaven.

My understanding is that it's common among American Protestants, but I'm not an expert.

Agreed on such expectations, but I believe the Universe is orderly and simply not understood. Consider a hurricane. To someone in the 1600s, it is completely unpredictable and chaotic. To someone in the 2000s, it's more predictable and better understood, but still a work in progress to be understood.
