Well, you are partially correct. It was from 1940 to 1973 that there was a draft. 10 Million were drafted during WW2. I wasn't drafted since I had already enlisted right out of high school. One of my brothers who was a year younger then me was drafted in '66. He ended up making a career out of it retiring as a full bird Colonel.
