What a dumbass?!!

The vast majority of welfare beneficiaries are not black.

President Donald Trump was apparently unaware that not all—in fact, the vast majority—of welfare beneficiaries are not black as recently as last March, according to a new report.

In the spring of 2017, the newly elected president met with members of the Congressional Black Caucus. During that meeting, one of the members mentioned to Trump that welfare reform would be detrimental to her constituents— adding, “Not all of whom are black,” according to NBC.

The president was incredulous. “Really? Then what are they?”

Statistically speaking, they were probably white.

In fact, whites are the biggest beneficiaries when it comes to government safety-net programs like the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, commonly referred to as welfare.

White people without a college degree ages 18 to 64 are the largest class of adults lifted out of poverty by such programs, according to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. The think tank’s 2017 report stated that 6.2 million working-age whites were lifted above the poverty line in 2014 compared to 2.8 million blacks and 2.4 million Hispanics.

When it comes the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP—the initiative formerly known as food stamps—the numbers look similar.

Just over 40 percent of SNAP recipients are white. Another 25.7 percent are black, 10.3 percent are Hispanic, 2.1 percent are Asian and 1.2 percent are Native American, according to a 2015 Department of Agriculture report.

Despite Trump’s newly gleaned information, welfare reform remains one of his top goals for 2018. His administration and Congressional Republicans are looking to overhaul federal safety-net programs like SNAP, Medicaid and housing benefits.

News of Trump’s welfare comment arrived as he’s dealing with the backlash of reportedly calling African countries a “shithole” during a bipartisan meeting on immigration Thursday. Trump has denied using such language.

trump knows how ignorant and stupid his base is so he just panders to them.

I have a friend who lives in rural Alabama. He's one of a handful of ppl who supported Obama. He volunteers for a place that helps low-income ppl apply for various benefits including the ACA. He has actually had ppl refuse to sign up for "Obamacare" but be just fine with signing up for the ACA. In a similar vein, they will provide their personal info in order to see if they qualify for things like Medicaid, SNAP, help with utility bills, etc. Meanwhile, they go on and on about how President Trump is Making America Great Again. Boy, are they in for sticker shock if he gets his way.

All one has to do is understand proportions to know that blacks have the higher proportional use of food stamps and welfare than whites. It's quite obvious you're not one of those that understand proportions.

Nice story. When you can provide verifiable proof of it, let me know.

Doesn't know much about his base, huh?

At least he is giving them crumbs. Pelosi doesn't seem to know how far those crumbs can go.
Set Trump aside for a minute. I have seen it posted many times that welfare recipients are deserving, because it was automatically assumed that one was talking about inner city folks. When one argues that the poor, you know, the rural ones in the trailerhood, need the same consideration, one argues that it is their own faults because they voted R for far too long. Again...
We live in such a wonderful country, we can vote, we can laugh and snicker about other voters, our politicians, anyone for that matter. Well, most, and there in lies the problem. When folks were making remarks about the previous prez, they were called racists and other choice names. Trump doesn't have that defense. At least Hillary had the sexism defense. A guy who happened to be old and white doesn't have that luxury.

We don't know what history will say about the Trump presidency. What we can say for sure is that his term(s) prove that a large percentage of our tolerant, broad minded, progressive compadres are utter hypocrites.
People, esp poor people of brown or black descent must be protected at all cost. Poor white folks from southern states, esp if they call themselves Christian conservatives, are fair game and can be insulted and denigrated at will. Even Mrs Pelosi, Mrs Clinton and Mr Obama indicated as much.
That is the hypocrisy that is being exposed. The dividers who call themselves champions of humanity are nothing but a farce. It is about time we recognize that all of us, every one of us, including the current prez, are human beings and must be treated as such.
Your (general) insults and gossip and falsehoods speak more about yourself than the ones you are insulting.
Discuss issues, discuss them passionately, but treat others, everyone, the way you would want to be treated, regardless of who you are.

Let's bring trump back in for a minute. Every critical thing you mentioned above has been the standard trump m.o. from Day One. Every day he criticizes or denigrates a person, a policy or a country. Every day he spouts big plans but does not follow through. Every day trump's mouth talks populism and being a champion of the little guy, while his hand signs paperwork that works against the very people his forked tongue claims to support.

You wrote "every one of us, included the current prez, are human beings and must be treated as such." You wrote that a few sentences after you wrote "a large percentage of our tolerant, broad minded, progressive compadres are utter hypocrites." Maybe these two sentences will help you see why some of us don't consider you the non partisan of your avatar.

I cannot respect a man who puts hatefulness on display every single day. A man who constantly trades in the insults, gossip and falsehoods you criticize in others. This man is supposed to represent the entire country but it's crystal-clear he does not. This man who claimed he was going to unite the country has divided it more than ever before.

You wrote "discuss the issues, discuss them passionately but treat others the way you would want to be treated." Yet your own post doesn't treat Pelosi, Clinton and progressives with that high-minded sentiment. Frankly, I'm puzzled by the contradictions in your post.
