We barely manufacture any hard lines items like electronics, appliances, lawn and garden or industrial equipment anymore anyway.

Even the cars we "make" here are already partially manufactured overseas with only the final assembly happening in the US.

What are you trying to protect.... t-shirt and cookie making companies?

And guess what happens if the "what the market will bear" price of a product is not high enough for the company to make a profit, Einstooge....

Companies have to not only make a profit to survive, they have to make a certain percentage of profit margin.

Try to think about that for awhile if it isn't too taxing for you.

Tariffs only apply to imports and imports are pretty much all Americans buy anymore.

Why?

Because it costs too much to produce goods in America.

Why?

Because American workers demand too much.

So if you make imported products more expensive by placing import tariffs on them, you're going to price American consumers out of the market. Eventually, you'll force retailers to close up shop. Now you've got more people unemployed.
