Trump’s Bible Just Might Earn Him Eternal Damnation

Trump is making a mockery of Christianity.

It was already on the decline.
Which he is free to do. The problem isn't Trump's worship of mammon, but that he has the full support of the Evangelistas in the Republican Party. What does that make them?

I always find it interesting that those who least care about the Bible itself are so much more offended by something like this than those who care.the most.

It's like watching someone get offended on the behalf of some group who isn't offended themselves.

I'm more offended by the phoniness, hypocrisy & gullibility, personally.

I couldn't care any less. He didn't pretend they were somehow more holy, he didn't hide he was doing it for his campaign.

The "offended" seem to be upset that it worked and not truly offended. Those who care are not offended... because he wasn't pretending, the only folks pretending are the "offended" in my opinion.

I don't like any of the "Christian"/"we love the evangelicals" stuff that he does. I don't personally believe he is a Christian. It's pure pandering.

Which, of course, politicians do. But I generally cringe.

Generally cringe... cool. It's the whole, "I'm so offended in your behalf" that's pretense.

I get that you don't like the pander... however this is the first President in my lifetime that didn't even pretend to have membership in a church. That's not pandering.

This idea that he can't care about evangelists simply because he isn't one puts the entire idea of woke to bed.In that world nobody could ever care about another without being a member of the group.

I'm very involved in the faith and disturbed that even with all the warnings in the Bible about those who will use the faith to deceive we still have so many misguided faithful getting deceived. Trump has spread division, hate, and acceptance of blasphemy all while enrobed in a faux holy facade. To me, it's just more signs of the Antichrist.

The bible is the most important literary work in the history of western civilization, whether atheists are loath to admit it or not, and has deeply penetrated western cultural and moral values, even when the religious language is stripped away.

In short, it is the most important book in the history of western civilization, and as a moral and religious icon a billionaire like Trump has no business hawking it for profit.

The Gideons give bibles away for free or at cost.

Agreed on the general idea, but let's be honest here: Trump only cares about Trump. He doesn't give a shit about anyone or anything unless it benefits himself. Yes, that includes family.

Hello signalmankenneth,

I have vivid memories of then-President Donald Trump standing in front of St. John’s Episcopal Church, right across from the White House, using the Bible as a prop. Ironically and revealingly, Trump looked uncomfortable handling the Holy Scriptures and ended up holding the Bible upside down. Had he actually read the Bible, it would have turned his worldview upside down.

And now he is hawking his new Bible–the Bless the USA Bible–for $59.99 (more than most Bibles cost). Of course, he gets all the proceeds. He launched his new venture in the middle of Holy Week for Christians in the lead-up to Jesus’ Friday crucifixion and Sunday resurrection. In the commercial video Trump made to sell his new Bible, he spoke explicitly about Holy Week, Easter, Jesus, God, and Christian values more than we have ever heard him do before.

Donald Trump has gone from using the Bible as a prop to turning our Holy Scriptures into a commodity. Words no longer suffice for the things he says and does with the most common word for his personal, political, and presidential behavior being unprecedented.

But I have some better words–religious words. I and many other faith leaders are willing to accuse Donald Trump of two more things.
Newsmax Helps Trump Hawk His $60 ‘God Bless the USA’ Bibles

The first is idolatry–false worship. The White Christian Nationalism, that Trump proclaims, directly names the problem. First, the most inclusive and welcoming message of the gospel of Jesus Christ is made white by the marketer-in-chief of racial grievance. Second, the word Christian is distorted beyond recognition. Service, sacrifice, and love are replaced with control and domination with Trump’s religious disciples unapologetically aiming for control in their “Seven Mountain Strategy”—with right-wing Christians ruling government, business, media, education, family, arts/entertainment, and, of course, religion.

And in direct contradiction to Jesus' instruction to his followers to make disciples in every nation, Trump’s faith will be nationalism, not just positively loving your own country, but asserting the power of one nation over others. Trump’s Bible features the documents of one country and puts the words “God Bless the USA” on the cover. That is idolatry—the false worship of a nation.

The second word is heresy, which means drawing Christians and others away from Christ. Donald Trump and his MAGA movement deny the truest and deepest teaching of Jesus in places like his Sermon on the Mount. Trump’s worship of wealth and utter disregard for the poorest and most vulnerable brings the judgment of Jesus in Matthew’s gospel Chapter 25, “As you have done to the least of these you have done to me.”

It is sad that so many so-called "Christians" have become his followers.

They make a mockery of religion.

Christians are supposed to turn the other cheek, not attack the Capitol.

The seat of our government, and they sought to attack it and force it to do their bidding, all based on a big lie.

They coveted President Biden's victory so much that they sought to deny it to him and have it for themselves.

It is as if they never heard of the Ten Commandments.

They made DT into a god. They tried to steal an election. The bore false witness. They coveted the election win. And they brought dishonor to their parents.

He is known to have mocked holy rollers behind their backs

Agreed which is why they are not really Christians following the path of Jesus.

Along with military personnel. Trump only cares about Trump. People who don't understand that point are either stupid or blinding themselves.

you mean he doesn't care about the greater good of making sure billionaires are happy with border and trade policy?

:neat:

you're very dumb.

Trump is making a mockery of Christianity.

It was already on the decline.

Trump didn’t attend any Easter church services yesterday.

Instead, he ranted over 77 times on social media, attacking the rule of law, judges, prosecutors and anyone who dares to hold him accountable.

He also likened himself to the Messiah while lying about dozens of things.

Easter is supposed to be about contemplation of one’s faith with grace, humility and gratitude.

Donald Jezebel Trump is many things.

Christian, isn’t one of them.

They don't see it that way, they see a President that kept promises to them. They find the SCOTUS agreeable, they understand that the left often acts directly against their interest. Evangelicals see someone that protected their 1st Amendment rights against what they often see as persecution from the left. Though modern "persecution" isn't quite what folks in the bible had to face, ay?

Of course they do. You are a smart guy, Damo. No doubt you've noticed that most MAGAts are on the backside of both the IQ and education curves. More than a few are a little to a lot whacky. MTG is a prime example...and MAGAts love her.

IMO, the Evangelicals are a little whacky themselves; they are trying to jumpstart the second coming by rebuilding the temple. That means removing the Dome of the Rock. An act certain to cause a stir in the ME. LOL

It is funny to see them suddenly worried about Christianity  They should worry about their relationship to God more and worry about Trump's relationship less.

As should all who claim to be something they are not and passing bad medical information that results in harm to others.
