GOP Memo Admits Plan Could 'Keep Black Vote Down'

October 25, 1986|From the Washington Post

NEWARK, N.J. — A Republican National Committee official calculated that a so-called ballot security program in Louisiana "could keep the black vote down considerably," according to documents released in federal court Friday.

The documents and court hearing were the latest developments in a controversy over the GOP's ballot program that Democrats maintain is aimed at reducing minority turnout. The Republicans say the program's sole purpose is to purge ineligible voters from voting roles.

In an Aug. 13 memo the court made public Friday, Kris Wolfe, the Republican National Committee Midwest political director, wrote Lanny Griffith, the committee's Southern political director, and said of the Louisiana campaigning:

"I know this race is really important to you. I would guess that this program will eliminate at least 60-80,000 folks from the rolls. . . . If it's a close race . . . which I'm assuming it is, this could keep the black vote down considerably."

Unseals Document

She said in the memorandum that the program had been approved by Gregory Graves, deputy political director of the National Republican Senatorial Committee.

Dear dimwit; if you had read the entire article the judge in this case refused to issue a restraining order against the dependent and accepted the Republican lawyers explanation.

But you're a pathetic idiot; you cannot comprehend the facts, reality or the truth while you parade around this forum removing any doubt what a pathetic retard you really are.

oh really ?

then quote him

Debevoise refused to issue a restraining order requiring the GOP to stop all similar activity.

Accepts Lawyers' Word

The judge said he accepted the word of Republican lawyers who told him all ballot security programs have been stopped, including an effort the Democrats say singled out predominantly black and Latino precincts in Pontiac, Mich.

You never seem to tire from constantly parroting the same tired canard regardless of what thread you infest with your reougnant stupidity.

Yes, you really are THAT repugnant and THAT stupid. You're a partisan asshat of epic proportions that has no peer.

Dismissed.

The Democrats are suing the Republican Party for $10 million, charging that the Republican National Committee ballot security programs--a method of assuring that voters reside at their listed addresses--violated a 1981 consent agreement signed by both parties.

Under the agreement, the Republican committee would "refrain from undertaking any ballot security activities in polling places or election districts where the racial composition of such districts is a factor."

now why did he believe them when they have a PAST record of doing just what was claimed and refusing to stop?

In other words; no case for the dimwits who brought the case to court idiot. The judge sided with the defendants; another case of wasting the courts time with frivolous lawsuits intended to garner headlines to fool gullible partisan dimwits like you.

Yes, you really are THAT stupid.

You are one dense dimwit.

how is this not fact?

US Supreme Court on Monday turned aside a petition from the Republican National Committee to lift a 30-year-old consent decree. The decree requires the RNC to refrain from tactics that could suppress voting rights.

By Warren Richey - Christian Science Monitor

The US Supreme Court declined on Monday to take up a request by the Republican National Committee to lift a 30-year-old consent decree that restricts the political party’s ability to enforce pre-election ballot security programs that critics say would result in minority voter suppression.

The high court, without comment, turned aside the Republican Party’s petition.

STILL all these years later EVEN your right wing packed scotus wont release them from the consent decree.

because you assholes keep breaking it .

that judge sure proved out to be a fucktard for trusting you guys huh

Wrong again dimwit; this case dates back to 1986 and they were unsuccessful trying to sue for 10 million. It was a partisan hack effort that failed as miserably as the partisan hack effort on Tom DeLay. But not until after wasting millions of court hours and millions of dollars.

That's how the racist Democrat Fascists like to work. If they cannot cheat, obfuscate and lie their way to power, they will try to bankrupt their opponents through frivolous wasteful lawsuits.

But you're a gullible sheep dimwit who bleats the party line like a trained circus monkey; you don't think, don't know how to think and show no indications of wanting to think. You like being a gullible dimwit stuck permanently on stupid.

Run along little dimwit and spam some other threads with your inane stupidity.

you know even though the judge saved your cheating assed party like ten million dollars that day anyone who sees this evidence knows exactly what your party was doing.

Your doing it still today huh asshole

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAGHAHAHAHAH

your party was under a consent decree BEFORE that case.

it just makes the Judge look like and idiot in retrospect huh?

Have at it, righties. Tell me how this news *really* sucks.

"Investors were waiting with bated breath for the November jobs report, anxious to see what the new numbers would indicate about Federal Reserve tapering.

Employers added 203,000 jobs in November, above the 180,000 economists expected. The unemployment rate, which is drawn from a different survey of households, was down to 7% from 7.3% in October. The labor force participation rate was up slightly to 63% from 62.8%.

Following the news the S&P 500 added about 18 points to 1,800 in pre-market trading. The Dow added about 143 points to 15,960...

...this is the second month in a row of better-than-expected jobs reports. Baird says this “raises the odds that the Fed could commence the tapering process for their bond purchase program in the near-term” meaning the positive economic news may not be good for investors in the short term...

...The health care, transportation/warehousing and manufacturing industries all added significantly to the jobs number in November. The largest gains were in transportation and warehousing, which rose by 31,000 with jobs added for couriers, truck transportation and warehousing storage. Blitz cautions against putting too much weight in these increases because they may be largely holiday related and temporary. While the Bureau of Labor Statistics does make seasonal adjustments Blitz is not convinced it has caught up to the growth of online shopping. “Every year more and more stuff is purchased online. So the Amazons, the other online guys and the people who deliver packages need to hire more people than they did last year to do the job.”

http://www.forbes.com/sites/samanth...203k-jobs-in-november-unemployment-down-to-7/

1) The best news in this report is the rise in transportation as a sector. Normally a good leading indicator for the economy as a whole strengthening.

2) Not really sure what to make of the numbers. We added 200k jobs, labor participation rate ticked up very slightly (but still went up, not down)... yet somehow the unemployment rate went down 0.2%??? Those numbers do not add up. You generally need about 250-300k jobs (can be new jobs +/- change in participation rate) to get the rate down. If labor participation went up 0.1, you would have needed about 500k new jobs to get unemployment rate down 0.1, let alone 0.2. Keep in mind both are surveys, so it could just be a weird anomaly. I would say it is most likely an error in the new jobs added as the transportation number mentioned above is a positive and that sector has been gaining strength of late.

Bottom line, this is an overall plus.

1982 you idiot.

that judge trusted your party leaders because he was in the pocket or a complete fucking idiot.

Your party had already PROVEN they would cheat this way and then repeated the actions.

that judge was an asshole to pretend that evidence was not exactly what it clearly is

Leave it to Desh to take a thread on the economy and turn it into yet ANOTHER derailment with her 'Reps cheat in elections'.

I guess he forgot it was about a month until Christmas and retailers always hire extra help this time of year. And since the market is up I guess others forgot this as well. I think it is referred to as seasonal employment.

the numbers are seasonally adjusted just to prevent such problems when seasonal employment goes up and down

oh well

the best way to take care of them is a good economy and PROPER taxation on those activities to provide us with the means to care for them.

the top 20% needs to pay more taxes

it used to be that the middle class paid the most in taxes, but the middle class is diminishing and the revenue needs to come from somewhere
