There is no way that I know of, to take private property and use it for your own purposes, in this case, to house the homeless. The only way it can be done, is to violate the 4th Amendment and seize it illegally. Is that what you are proposing we allow the government to do?
And people build houses for the poor all the time, it's called Habitat for Humanity... a big Jimmy Carter initiative. This isn't done by the government, but by volunteers and people taking care of each other, the way they should.
Again, if the poor don't have food, there are dozens of places they can go. The Salvation Army provides food, clothing, and shelter, for people in every major American city. Sacred Heart Ministries runs the Good Samaritan program, does the same thing for poor people. These things can (and are) handled by charity groups already out there, we have no need for the government to steal people's money to ease your guilty conscience for not doing your part. Get off your ass and go help someone with your own money, and stop trying to steal mine to help them.
One of the guys that I ride with got in touch with several food banks and he now goes weekly to pick up excess donations, before they spoil, and several of us are passing out bread, cereal, chips, and anything else we can get, to biker families, who have children, who are in need.
He also hooked up with a charity group and they bring him, me, and another ridding buddy, at least 20 food boxes that we deliver to needy biker families.
We're also donating items to a women's abuse shelter, that is just down the street from my buddy's tattoo shop.
We found a need and found a way to at least help those who we could.
He is currently looking for a building that he can buy, so we can use it as a warehouse; because he ends up having to pass up things that he can't store and sort.
If he can find the building he can use, he intends to put in for a 501C, or at least I think that's what it's called.
So my question is this:
What are other unfortunet people doing, to help themselves and each other; because the food banks that my buddy goes to, have said that they've had to dispose of some of the donated items they get; because they can't find enough people OR ORGANIZATIONS to give it to.
This is why we're planning on expanding our little venture and intending to hopefully become one of the largest food banks, in our area.
