Upcoming election…

Do you believe San Fransisco is the shithole as portrayed in Conservative media.

When I tell certain people I am visiting the city, or that my daughter will likely be attending Berkeley, they go off about the dangers and depravity.
There are lots of concerns there...Didn't your son consider San Fran for college as well?

He will not "cancel" them, but already is trying to do everything to suppress the vote and manipulate it.

Redistricting and sending federal agents to "monitor" liberal voting areas.
IDK. He's been getting crazier as the year passes. He may try to incite violence in order to, legally or not, use the Insurrection Act to quell disorder. This, IMO, will result in violence and the shooting of Americans by Trump's secret police or Red State NG.

Speaking of which:

I just wish it wasn't Andrew Cuomo running against him.
I don't follow NYC politics close enough, but I had the same question. As former Governor of New York he has name recognition and is able to raise a lot of money. I didn't think he was a very good Governor, which could just be me being partisan.

I'm a real estate guy and as Governor in 2019 he signed this tenant protection act bill. That had the effect of helping to raise real estate prices in NYC, which is what Mamdini is running on - high real estate costs!

I'm surprised there are no other big name Democrats in NYC who could have run.

Controversy has surrounded New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani regarding his association with Imam Siraj Wahhaj, a figure accused of being a "terrorist sympathizer"
. In October 2025, the Republican National Committee released a blog post criticizing Mamdani for "proudly pos[ing] with a known terrorist sympathizer" and "prais[ing] Wahhaj as 'one of the nation's foremost Muslim leaders'".

If the Democrats go any further to the left, they will embrace cannibalism.
You do understand that during coffee breaks, the receptionist is just trolling for responses.

I didn't know a lot about Cuomo until his sexual harassment actions became public and he resigned. Guys like him who make the workplace toxic are a big turn-off. I hope any magas reading this see that I'm criticizing a Dem for his bad behaviour.

Why would anyone here believe that you would not encourage your daughter not to go to Berkeley. You are the classic alt leftie we hear make fun of for your naivety.

Politics aside, I usually defend San Francisco because it’s my home. That said, from COVID through the recent election of Mayor Lurie, it was very fair to call this place a sh*thole. And to be clear, it wasn’t just conservative media saying that. The New York Times and other mainstream outlets were reporting on how bad things had gotten. To his credit, while there are still issues, Mayor Lurie has done an excellent job.

I hear the same thing when people leave the Bay Area for places like Texas or Florida or send their kids to school in the South. People say, “how could you move to such a backwards sh*thole” or “why would you send your kids there.” It’s the same kind of bias, just reversed.

You are all too logical. Now, as a resident, what factors are causing people and corporations to leave for other states, and who or what policies are creating that phenomenon?

Not being in NYC, I can’t say how many people are thinking, “I don’t really want to vote for a socialist, and I don’t like the current mayor, but I can’t vote for Cuomo because of the harassment charges, so I’ll vote for the socialist instead.”

This race has gotten a lot of attention, both for its national political implications and from a real estate perspective, but in what I’ve read the harassment issue hasn’t really come up (again, not to imply it's playing no role).

The Party already knew this about him. I’m not sure if they didn’t think it would hurt him, or just felt they didn’t have any better options.

I want to defer to you since you live there, but I looked it up and what I found was the last Republican Senator was elected in 1972. That was they year of my birth, 53 years ago. How is it possible they've had as many Republican Senators as Democratic Senators in that time?
I got that wrong. You are correct. I was relying on something I shouldn't have. I apologize.

From what I gather, New Jersey has had 25 Democratic Party senators and 23 Republican senators since about mid-19th century. The preponderance in recent years, as you indicated, have been Democrats.

My bad.

If one wants to be around smart, driven, entrepreneurial people with access to capital, it’s hard to beat San Francisco and Silicon Valley. The tech ecosystem here is second to none. People have left, only to come back because they can’t find that mix elsewhere.

What drives people away are the political excesses, the breaking point on crime and quality of life, and of course the cost of living.

Only a MAGA moron would think that. You are slightly beneath a MAGA moron, so I doubt you "think" at all.

All good, no worries.

His playing career was pretty much before my time, but as a big basketball fan I definitely remember your Senator Bill Bradley.

Yup. I had the opportunity to speak with him on several occasions. He used to take long walks on Jersey beaches...and would stop and have conversations often.

I spoke with Lautenberg on several occasions also...in formal settings...and on a train between Newark and New York City.

Democrats will (very likely) elect two centrist governors,
That’s kind of a win for republicans. “Centrist” is basically opposite and anathema to the the party line.
a socialist mayor,
Not representative of @ least 90% of the country.
and approve a California ballot measure to mirror Trumps redistricting moves…
California has already been gerrymandered to saturation. Nothing new here.
A blue wave for sure….
About a three inch wave.
What’s the only thing the Trumppers will talk about!
?
Radical Democrats elect a socialist.
Expected. That’s what they are and do.
What will be the reality??
The Democratic Party is the party of large failing cities that embrace violent crime, illegal aliens, open borders, open illegal drug use, communism which doesn’t even exist anymore , government waste, fraud and abuse.

Democrats are a big tent party that elected two moderate governors!!!!
The “big tent” is limited to a few failing cities , e.g., Portland, L.A., S.F., Seattle, New Orleans, Chicago and St.Louis to name a few.
And a few blue states that are losing population to red states.
And;

Republicans LOSE bigly!
OK.
