We do need to work to get these "stand your ground" laws appealed. As a later post (I believe by Panda Hugger) said (in paraphrase), you can kill someone; they aren't there to dispute your version; you can claim self-defense and walk away.
And most of these laws (not sure in Florida) say you don't have to try to avoid a situation if you can.
So Zimmerman can follow Martin for blocks, kill him, and get declared "not guilty".
In the old days, a white woman could claim a black man flirted with her and that black man would get lynched... sound familiar here?
SP, no, we don't know exactly what happened when Z & Martin met. But we know Martin is dead and that there was no reason for it. If Z hadn't been so aggressive, carrying a gun he shouldn't have been carrying, following a young man he had no reason to follow - then Martin would still be alive.
Zimmerman, according to the jury, was following the law. So the law needs to be changed so future Zimmermans think twice.
