Vicious Political Movement

I think this opens up a reasonable debate that I actually like about the way my state is moving on the health care issues.

They come up with guidelines on who can and cant afford health care insurance. those that can and don't get the insurance loose there personal deduction on there tax return. a way for them to contribute for the health care deficit. those that cant afford it have a subsidized plan offered to them within there means.

I think its a great idea that can be built on and a good mix of making sure everyone is covered using private and public funding.

But chap,

shouldn't the health care costs eventually GO DOWN in price due to everyone being covered and less emergency care visits needed by the indigent or those without coverage?

Have you guys seen any action in a reduction of costs since the healthcare plan passed in Massachusetts?

It's just that many say our costs are so high, for those that do carry policies, becaseu we are paying for those that do not have insurance, no?

And we have the embedded cost of excessive litigation, and the lack of cost per procedure comparison shopping of a REAL freemarket. Big corporations dealing with other huge corporations about insurance deals leaves the little guy nowhere.

From what I read it appeared that neither were working full time, so that is one avenue they could have gone down to increase their income. Also, they did have an investment property on top of their home. So I find it very hard to believe they could not have afforded a healthcare plan.

Fat people should just get off their ass and exercise more!

Wasn't that your healthcare plan? ;)

Not if people are rushing to the hospital/doctor every time they have the sniffles.

Costs of the uninsured tend to be high because they typically go to "emergency" care facilities to be treated, regardless of what is wrong with them.... because they know they will get treated there. But that overwhelms the emergency care facilities and increases the costs.

I was talking about when the employer wasn't paying for it. Or do you have comprehension problems today?

I said, "When I was changing companies and didn't have insurance I carried my own..." and so forth. So please, READ THE POST at least!

You have to be absolutely the worst about this. I admit that I can't read every post, but I at least read the one I am responding to.

I though I specifically said that it didn't seem like you bought private family insurance recently

I can totally believe a family could spend 1200 bucks. Once you factor in the premium, the copays, the deductibles, perscription drugs and fees.

I don't know what magical insurance plan you got, but for any reasonable plan that even comes close to approximating a good plan you get through an employer, has got to be at least around 800 bucks a month, just on the premium.

im not sure its measurable yet in anyway. Doesn't start till 2008 i don think. not positive. I would think that would be the case in the future so long as the extra tax money collected goes towards that as well as we get results of more people going preventative versus emergency.
