The car only accelerated after she was shot. She was turning away from the officer, and when the car grazed him, it was going very slowly. He was in no danger, looking at the video - and he didn't even lose his footing. Had he jumped back, it wouldn't have even made contact, but he chose to pull his gun, aim & shoot.

Which put the street at greater risk. It was lucky that there weren't people standing around that car that her car careened into.

No one can tell you for sure because only she knew. She is the one that was responsible for her actions. And to add to this: you say he was trying to protect himself and "other cops." Which is just speculation, of course - but beyond that, how was he protecting "other cops?" As soon as she was shot, the vehicle was completely out of control. It sped up and went straight into a car on the other side of the street.

Had there been cops in between, they likely would have been hit. He didn't make that situation safer for everyone - or anyone - by shooting.
