Walmart, Lowe’s may raise prices if Trump’s tariff plans take effect, CFOs say

Walmart and Lowe’s may raise prices on many items if President-elect Donald Trump’s proposed tariff plan takes effect.

(Gray News) – Walmart and Lowe’s may raise prices on many items if President-elect Donald Trump’s proposed tariff plan takes effect.

During Trump’s presidential campaign, he said he will impose a 10-20% tariff on all imports, and a 60-100% tariff on goods from China.

In an interview with CNBC, Walmart CFO John David Rainey said the retailer “never wants to raise prices” but would have to consider it in cases like this.

Rainey also said it’s too soon to say which products could be affected due to Trump’s tariff plan.


And who exactly does he think pays the 200 Billion dollars in tarriffs? Spoiler: It ain't China.​

This is a political question, not an economic one (because tariffs are tax increases that get passed on to consumers which raise the cost of goods). What was your thought on Biden basically leaving in all of Trump's tariffs as well as adding a few more of his own?

Tariffs are a bad idea, they are inflationary and they wont work to rehome manufacturing..... even if the education system had not been gutted and the young not raised to be fragile adults that would take at least 30 years....as things are it is impossible.

tarriffs can be good but when outrageous they will kill the economy.

While I recognize that we will never have perfect free trade, I am a full on free trader and hate tariffs. So I don't support the tariffs Trump put in place in 2016 and I don't support Biden keeping them in place or adding his own. And I certainly don't support Trump's new proposed tariffs. (I cling to the hope of those who say 'take him seriously, not literally' and these tariffs won't actually go into effect.)

But I'm not really heard the position it seems you are advocating which, if I'm understanding you correctly, are the tariffs we've had the past 8 years are ok but going further is no bueno.

I agree we need to have more people bring their business back to the states but this is going to take a long time and hurting the american consumer in the meanwhile is just not smart.
 
Just got back from Walmart , was talking to somebody I know that works in the office there and she was saying they are getting ready to put a 10% hike across the board by the end of the year.
And then when they have an idea how much Trumps tariffs are going to be they are going to raise prices on products the tariffs effect ASAP ,
even before they go into effect.
Well here we go inflation like we haven't seen in years, this is going to make inflation under Biden look like nothing.
MAGA got what they wanted now let the shit show begin and watch them start crying like babies .
