Walmart, Lowe’s may raise prices if Trump’s tariff plans take effect, CFOs say

I am not saying tariffs are totally bad IF they are small ones like the ones Trump put on and Biden kept in place., they can do some good but tariffs of 20, 30 ,40 % or MORE ( 200% in some cases ) are going to do a lot of harm to this country and start trade wars we will not win.
And again many economists say Trumps massive tariffs he says he will put on will cause more harm then good and could put not only this country but the world into a deep recession / depression.
IS that what you want?
Tariffs are usually used to encourage consumers to buy American. Do we have the manufacturing in place to replace the Chinese goods?

Felon doesn’t understand how tariffs work, which is painfully obvious when he talks about them.

I think Trump is having a good laugh these days.

That is what I have been saying.
Tariffs can be good IF you have the infrastructure in place to make the goods you are putting them on as of right now we don't have a lot of it and it would take years to build it.

Not a rhetorical question (and since tone can be difficult to deduce on here sometimes I'm not screaming when I write this), why do you like the original Trump (Biden) tariffs? What did they do that you feel was beneficial?

They for one didn't have the effect on the economy that a 20,30 40% or in some cases a 200% increase Trump says he wants.
Tariffs like the ones Trump has been saying he wants will cause a lot of layoffs and could cause a deep recession / depression like the economists have been saying could happen.

They did have a big effect on the economy. I can post the data later but they cost jobs and slowed growth. The data shows that. So why was that acceptable?

ask them

since the early days of my coming to this board, I have see leftists do nothing but berate Walmart and those who shop there. You think they shop there secretly?
No MAGAts have admitted they are fascists even though, if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck...well, you know.

Probably. I try not to get into other people's business unless they are fucking with mine.

This is a pretty good summary of the damage the tariffs did. I’m asking you but anyone can answer. What was the benefit in exchange for slower growth and less jobs?

(Gray News) – Walmart and Lowe’s may raise prices on many items if President-elect Donald Trump’s proposed tariff plan takes effect.

During Trump’s presidential campaign, he said he will impose a 10-20% tariff on all imports, and a 60-100% tariff on goods from China.

In an interview with CNBC, Walmart CFO John David Rainey said the retailer “never wants to raise prices” but would have to consider it in cases like this.

Rainey also said it’s too soon to say which products could be affected due to Trump’s tariff plan.

And who exactly does he think pays the 200 Billion dollars in tarriffs? Spoiler: It ain't China.

Of course they will, the vast majority of their inventory comes from China and low cost labor nations, not a big surprise, but they won’t be the only ones, it will extend beyond cheap merchandise
